Just had a standard flyer email from Porsche OPC at Kendal quoting £2,363 for the switchable Porsche Sports Exhaust, includes VAT, fitting etc.

Doesn't exactly look a bargain but I have been toying with the PSE for ages so is it a fair price and worth the investment?

I have extended warranty on the car so fitting a none Porsche exhaust is not an option.

Cheers

Ring a few OPC's, a mate of mine got his done for £1,800 having been quoted £2,500 initially. He took the best price he found elsewhere back to his OPC who grudgingly matched it.

As above, it pays to shop around.

Carnewal will do the same but without the button for £400. OPC prices seem ludicrous given it adds nothing but noise. Just putting it out there for comparison.

Cheers, my head tells me it is a waste of money but my heart justifies it for the increase in driving pleasure - and man-maths justifies it as being cheaper than buying a new car....

still, £2k is a lot of money for what it is.....

Not a waste although crap compared to 996 PSE also makes car more attractive when it comes time sell.

£100 for a fuel filler cap (on the same email shot) looked rather pricey too !!

Yes, I wasn't tempted by that offer! Especially as I had alloy petrol caps on both my TVR and old Merc CE Coupe, and on both cars I left them sat on the petrol pump when I drove off....

For me, the sound of a sports car is up there with aesthetics, handling, performance. It's part of the formula and the package doesn't work without it. It's why I just can't like the SLS AMG electric car. Where is the magnificent SLS engine note?

I'm quoting you for one reason only - to see our user names together for my amusement! Nothing sensible to add. Sorry.

£400 is a nicer price but OP has extended warranty... I'd wait till out of warranty. Incidentally, 3 friends are in Europe as I type and part of their road trip includes a visit to Carnewal to get two exhausts modified (one on a 987 and one on a 987C - the third car, a 964, is noisy enough already!)

In my eyes....or should i say ears, its all about the noise. As mentioned a 996 C4S sounds good with PSE. If you were not tied to the warranty then i would go down the route of a Dansk Supersport which i think the last time i looked you could pick up for around £600. You can get cheaper, in fact if you wanted bypass you could get that for around £300. One of my baffles has gone and im going on the weekend to see about getting the baffle repaired but im wary of the 2nd one going soon.

Even so , there are options to exchange the exhaust and then put back to standard should a warranty woe rear its head.

Can you let me know where you are getting your baffle fixed? One of mine has just gone and am told its a relatively simple fix.

I got it added to my C4S, nothing beats pressing the button 20 yards before heading into the Hindhead tunnel and pressing the Sport Plus button at the same time! I'd go for it if I were you.

Decided to splash out in the end and have now got the car back fully sport exhausted up...

Got £100 off so paid £2,260 in the end, shopped around a bit previously and Porsche Bolton said they would match that price, after an initial quote closer to £2,900(?), but went to OPC Kendal as always used them to date.

Had the car in the shop for 2 days and I got a Panamera Diesel to run around in, so that was nice...

I also got them to box up the old chrome tail pipes so now plan to clean those up and stick them on ebay, not very optimistic but might get a few quid back....

the good news is that the car now sounds like it should, and that noise has to be good for another 20bhp!
