Getting out of retail

After 11 years of being in retail, ranging from a store assistant whilst at College/Uni and then moving into supervision/management over the past 4 years, I have decided that I have had enough of the constant long hours for little reward in addition to the poor recognition for doing a good job from the upper management.

What are peoples recommendations for getting out of this industry? My degree was IT based but was just a 2:2 so limited my job prospects for graduate schemes and also with technology moving on since 2007 my degree is now probably out of date.

I had a third in my computer science degree. I've done far better in my professional career and not once has anyone ever looked at what degree I had, oly nto verify that I actually had a degree. Rather than applying for a graduate scheme why not look for non graduate jobs and work from there? Never say never about being out of date, it is more about you being willing to adapt to change.

I'm quite good at interacting with people and communicating with them on a one to one basis. Looking to earn about 18k+, it is a big of a drop in wages for me but that's what I have set-up as a minimum salary that's 'liveable'. Work rate wise, I'm willing to pump the hours in if required and travel about 1 hour if required.
