MOT'd the Chim this morning. No issues but they have 'advised' on the headlights.

Any sources of original lights? A quick google is showing that the original units are no longer being made & only one place now stocks them (and want big money).

I'm not convinced by the Lupo light conversions, can the original units be removed and the reflector be restored/re-coated?

Also any recommendations on where to source a new fuel pump from?

Many thanks,
Phill

Take a look at these - http://www.silchrome.co.uk/ Great service for £55+VAT for both reflectors.

There are discussions here about lamps, and the reflectors, and lupo 'upgrades' mentioned several times.

I'm absolutely convinced about the lupos; personally, I hate them. But to each their own.

I've had mine replaced by 'the expensive people'. Well worth it IMO, but a cheaper option would have been acceptable, had the time been available.

On my car i didn't have the access hole in the wheel arch so i took the decision to make one. Not big enough to put the reflector through so used the grill at the front - but it helped putting the reflector in, the bulbs in and adjusting- i did not remove the lens or cowl but could clean the inside of the lens (it was filthy). Bought new alignment screws as well as the old ones were rusty. Aligned to marks i made on the garage wall. One i had made the holes it probably took about 2 hours.

Not done it myself, but to be honest, it looks a minor PITA to me having seen it in bits.

But then, that has been my approach to TVR ownership from the beginning; earn the money to make it someone else's PITA biggrin

Well, back to doing my part...

Just wish they didn't come out with crap like this...

"Do away with your old split open sealed beam unit and TVR brush painted reflector"

The lights *AREN'T* a split open sealed beam unit - they were always a separate lens and reflector - and since when did TVR brush paint the reflectors?

I guess you have to have some kind of line that will sell something that's possibly even fuglier than lupos wobble

(flame proof suit to hand)

Can't disagree with you though Phil.
It's a damned stupid thing to say, never mind wholly inaccurate.

You don't like the faired in lights of the last lot of cars then GB?

I really do like their "T350" light setup at the bottom but feck me - £1850! eek

Edited to add - Feck me from behind with an elephant's dong! That's *PLUS VAT* too! eek

The principal reason my current love is still my current love.
I went to the dealer saying "I want to chop in for a brand new one", then he showed me one that had just arrived! WTF? eek
Frankly, I preferred the older seats as well.
I think trying to drag such a classic design in to 'modern world' was just a step to far.
The Tuscan was the shape of things to come at the time, the Chimaera was a classic as it was. They would have done better to spend more on the engineering than the styling IMO.

I'm just going to leave that one alone...
As I've said before; to each his own smile

Working on it but... on this occasion failing. You are right, no question.

Given the number of issues I haven't had over the years, frankly I think they started to get a lot of the engineering right near the end.
They were still selling like hotcakes at the end, yet how many people with later model cars come here for help? A lot fewer I think.
Sure, partly an age and mileage thing, but I think also that build quality had actually improved a lot.

I test drove one of the new Tuscans when they started arriving.
It had more clanks, rattles and 'loose bits' than my 30k miles Chimaera did (or does at 100k miles for that matter). A few years later, they weren't so bad after all. Classic small volume car maker; the customer shakes out the bugs for them.
