Hi all. Just wanted some advice on what I should use to top up oil in my C63. I called MB who last serviced the car and they said its Mobil 1 0/30. Does this sound right? Most of the searches I've done seem to say 0/40. Any help appreciated.

My CL63 gets Mobil 1 New Life which, I was lead to believe, is the correct stuff for it's engine. Halfords had a half-price deal a few months ago although I think that has ended now.

My dealer uses Shell Helix Ultra 5W 40. Just need to make sure it says MB 229.5 on the spec on the bottle.

As per Marky1s post, make sure its MB229.5 stamped, to keep everything above board.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-721-mb-2295-oil.aspx show some that are suitable.

Halfords occasionally have offers on and i believe Costco are good too!

This is all so confusing. MB says 0/30 Mobil 1, service invoice shows shell helix but no weight.

I'm no expert but I think as long as the oil you are using says MB 229.5 you are okay. I'm pretty sure though that only oil that is 5w 40 or 0w 40 will say 229.5 on it. As far as I can see Mobil 1 is 0w 40 and Shell Helix Ultra is 5w 40 - I use Shell. Have never seen anyone say to use 0w 30. Have a look at this link, and worst case see what it says in manual (I hate reading them too) http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/engine/116725-engin...

Edited to add that in the link someone posted above there is a 0w 30. So I guess some 0w 30 oils could be 229.5 spec, i.e the Castrol one.

Went to the MB dealership in central Birmingham today. Apparently they've now moved over to 5/40 Petronas oil, rebranded under mercedes own name. Surprised there's no consistency from garage to garage.

Mine doesn't seem to consume any oil! Checked it today and its still on the top marker after 1500 miles of mixed driving since i picked it up.
