Fiesta ST feedback please (mk1 variation)
Discussion
My wife's 205 GTI 1.9 is a great car, but its got to that stage where it needs a bit of TLC and with the recent rise in prices it may be time to sell (neither of us is good at doing car work ourselves). She's always fancied an ST Fiesta in blue and there is one locally for £3100 with 90,000 miles on it. Are they good cars to own and do they take the miles well? She only does 2500 miles a year so a 90,000 mile car doesn't bother us, we bought the 205 with nearly 90,000 on the clock 10 years ago. Feedback appreciated, cheers
I bought an 07 facelift blue ST but it only has 40k on it.
I would say it's a good warm hatch but the ride is very firm so it points and goes where it should. Being short, I have lost the back end on one or two occasions but it had budget tyres and it's easy enough to catch.
I had to have my air con refilled and check the front springs as one of mine broke and gouged the tread off - could have been nasty.
I think the kid who had mine did things on the cheap as the brakes were less than confidence-inspiring so a set of Green Stuff at £107 went on which vastly improved them.
For me, the downside of the ST, after a year's ownership, is only the short gearing. It cries out for a 6th gear and because the car is small, you are aware of the engine. It's not intrusive or particularly loud but you will often try to find 6th.
Aside from that, it's been a nice solid car (squeaky in parts buy hey) and the multi-CD unit gets used a single CD player following the not unknown habit of refusing to give back a CD in the other positions.
The good side is great visibility through nice big windows and good door mirrors, in a nice compact size and I still think it's a bit of a classic and chunky design, of its type.

As above really.
Had mine (2006 plate) for 3 years and so far nothing major other than a knackered front spring. Bought at 24k, now on 60k. Feels a bit 'loose' now but reckon its got years in it as a run about.
Tiring on the motorway, but it's not really designed for that. More than enough power for pootling around town and fun on windy roads
Driving position high but you get used to it.
