After a Ridedrive airfield session and 16,000 miles, my SO2s were decidely scrubbed at the edges, if not quite worn out. Anyway, decided a new set was in order ...
Reading the threads here, S03s looked best. Pricewise, mytyres.co.uk were cheapest by quite a way
205/55 15s and 225/50 16s on a 1999 Chim 450
Total £348 plus £48 fitting.. I phoned the fitter and asked them whether they wanted to match the overall price, and they got within a tenner so that is what I did.
Question -- SO2s were at 22psi front 24 rear which seemed good, do I run the S03s at the same, and should it be a bit more for a long motorway run?

Just posted this on the Howl Cow thread
One of the main messages I got from my RideDrive course was that once its gone, its probably gone for good. Or at least needing more space than the average road might offer. Amongst other things he had me driving round a circle in 2nd as fast as it would go, then stamping on the gas. Wheeeeee, schreeech, tyre smoke, stop facing backwards. Not too bad if just accellerating gradually past the point of grip, then it understeers at first. Or lift off a bit, catch the resulting oversteer and try to hold that on the throttle. Lots of fun, but would hate to have to do it on the road. We had the top off, and each time we got showered with dust and grass clippings (from the slightly overgrown concrete). Loads of fun, highly recommended.
The road bit was just as good. We did 300 miles in rural Norfolk, Cambs, Suffolk and Essex. Great tips on overtaking, using all the road, observation and cornering. And I was encouraged to use ALL the performance once out of town. The advice went something like;
"you know my job?"
"Yes, you're a traffic policeman"
"OK we need to stick to the limits in 30s and 40s, but once out of town, I can't encourage you to speed, but its up to you to judge your speed for what is safe for the road conditions and I will not be criticising you for speeding"
Whoopee. 90 down some rural roads easily, and encouraged to push harder sometimes.

Brilliant day, much more confident as a result, and I think safer.

Good question too. I'm experimenting with mine (SO3's all round) and am currently on 20psi front and 22psi rear. Feels pretty good but still not convinced it's right so may put the fronts up to 22 again.
They are PPs Is there a non PP version, or is it automatically PP if Z rated?
Thanks for the PSI info. I am going to cruise up the A1 tonight at 23 psi front, 25 psi rear and will report back. Mind you the tyres are brand new still, so maybe coming back will be a better assessment. Easy does it for now.
