Hmm.

I'm all for a band to progress, but I'm going to be that guy who thinks that their last great album was 'Songs for the Deaf'. Not so hot on the new stuff. Much preferred the stoner element of the first three albums.

Agreed, at least so far. But I'll give the new one another week or so to sink in to be sure. I could happily never have heard all but one of the songs on Era Vulgaris...

Lullabies to Paralyze and Era Vulgaris are too thrashy with a hint of pop about them.

Im a big fan but wasnt fussed on Era Vulgaris at all. Thought the Them Crooked Vultures album was a tad over-rated too - although after early listen to the new one it seems better than Era and will hopefully get even better with more listens

Josh Homme needs to relearn the lost art of making a short album and ditching the filler.

After about 8 listens I'm putting ...Like Clockwork along side SFTD and the debut as my favs. It's a real slow burner, initially I thought there were no stand out tracks, no hooks. After more listens however the songs stuck with me and I even found myself humming the bass lines the next day.

I love all their albums, some more than others admittedly, Era vulgaris being the lowest point but still a damn sight better than some other guff released in 2006.

Im really glad that the Queens dont rest on their laurels, they change, never make the same album twice. I can imagine the temptation to do another songs for the.... must have been great what with Grohl, Lanegan and Oliveri on the same record, but im really glad they didn't. Like clockwork was the right thing for them to do imo.

Loved most of their stuff since the off so taken a punt and pre-ordered the deluxe LP on 12"

Looking forward to hearing the full thing.
