Stone Roses Finsbury park 7 June

Just got back from Finsbury Park. What an awesome gig. For me, She Bangs The Drum was absolutely standout. Seeing the 4 embracing on stage at the end was brilliant, they got a huge cheer.
Thumbs up to the guys with the smoke canisters - although I suspect they were plants by the band - the orange/blue/green smoke looked magical with the lasers shining through them.
I feet like I was 14 again, discovering them on my Walkman and cans.

Ribs hurt from being right up at the barrier.
Indescribable really, never heard Ian Brown sing, as the crowd just took over from where I was. When they started Elephant Stone the whole place erupted.
Utterly, utterly mental. Walking back to Camden tube with the crowd singing This Is the One as they went was a surreal end to the evening.
Inches away from getting hold of the tambourine things Ian Brown threw into the crowd at the end. The guy next to me got them.

Cracking night, they seem to be getting tighter musically but somehow not quite as special as Heaton Park.
Finsbury Park was a considerably easier venue to get into and out of though, probably helped a little by our hotel being directly opposite the main entrance, we could hear the warm up acts from the hotel bar.
Let the main hoards escape and then popped down to the 9 Pins that had a cracking live band on and then when that shut over to the Blackstock to fill the jukebox full of Roses tracks and finished the night off there.

Hearing lots about a massive fight breaking out near the front as Adored began.
At my age, I can't be arsed with moshing it up. We stood by the tree at the back & watched form there, which was conveniently handy for the urinals which was conveniently handy as we'd been in the Faltering Fullback since two.
On which note, an enduring memory will be the inadequate urinals leading directly to a line of people going about their erm... business up against the fence by the urinals, leading in turn to a bloke wearing flip flops & shorts slipping over in what can only be described as a river of piss.

The ability to get drink into and out of people at these things always seems to be hard work, I kind of wish they'd do a 'proper' tour and play conventional venues.
The Nine Pins was a tender box waiting to go off, and the band playing 'jump about indy rock' to a 99% male audience was a situation waiting to explode but somehow it stayed good natured.....even through a rendition of a Rage Against the Machine number.

You're missing three pins from your pub aren't you? We hit the Faltering Fullback for it's vertical Ewok forest beer garden (their description) decent little boozer, so we would have walked past you at some point. Every pub totally rammed wherever you looked.
I agree on the crowd though. 50k is just too many people for fifty quid a throw. I would not do it if it were anyone other than the Roses & even then I won't go again unless they ditch the nostalgia set and/or start playing reasonable venues.
