I found the driver's door window shattered while parked in my garage the other day. All I can remember doing is passing by and knocking the door mirror which folded in gently. Anyone else had a similar problem?
Has anyone replaced the door glass? I've had the door card off but found access to the window mechanism very restricted and couldn't even vacuum all the shattered glass from the bottom of the door. Am I missing a trick?
The glass has 2 holes in it which fix to the lifting mechanism, how do I undo the retainers on the mechanism so I can fit a new door glass?
Can anyone help please?

Hi

You need to half lower the door glass to align the fixing points with the holes on the inside of the door. To do this just unclip the window control from the door card and connect up to the door loom, put the ignition on and operate as normal. They are secured by a hex bolt at the front and rear which you can get at thru the holes. Mine were very tight when I adjusted the door glass. If you have new glass there should be some alignment dots.

Anyway all this is covered in the workshop manual which I assume you don't have so I have sent you a PM.

I would also replace the guide rubber that the window slides into ( situated front of door where mirror is ).

Mine failed once and I thought glass was going to shatter as it slid up one side and not the middle of the rubber guide/seal.

Relatively cheap, 30 pounds ish from memory, but well worth doing whilst door stripped down.

Many thanks to the above members, I did miss those alignment holes. How do I get the glass fragments out of the door bottom? It sounds like Spanish maracas when I close the door now and the usual vacuum cleaner slotted attachment won't fit into the door bottom to remove the fragments. Has anyone adapted some household item or am I missing something else?

Two ways

1. Door off - frown
2. Adapt the vac hose to use a smaller tube. Fish pond shops have a variety of hose sizes and adaptors, maybe get some smaller bore hose and an adaptor to attach it to the vac hose and some duck tape, hose like this

and adaptors like this

You can get sizes down to 12mm on that site which should allow you to get to most of the glass.
