Not sure if it restricts the seats but good otherwise. Anyone know anything about it?

I have one in mine. My Chim has Tuscan seats and the bar does stop them reclining a few inches. Don't know about normal seats.

some will be on soon to say they are too low ( which it is a bit) but i attach a harness to it so does have a use.

Not wanting to steal the thread...but does anyone know what other Chim Roll bars are out there, who supplies them etc?

Roll Centre Racing do a good one, high enough and far enough back, and with neat harness attachments right behind the seat.
Just need to wrap the vertical bar behind your seat to stop the headrest squeaking on it. Seat back will still go 90% of the way back.
I have one fitted if anyone wants to see/try it. Only thing it doesn't have is a diagonal bar to reinforce it.

The radius looks tighter than the TR Lane one and it is higher against the seat back.

That is an early TR Lane bar which is frankly rubbish.

It is far too low and will only protect your shoulders, you will have lost your head!

afaik, he doesn't make these any more only the later one which he used my car as a template.

He fitted that first design to my car,......... it went straight back!

This is my Sportmotive roll bar fitted recently.I am 6'2" and even with the seat pushed back its far enough back to not hit my head and high enough to clear the head rest. I still have to add some foam when I get round to it.

This is what engineer1949 built for me - http://tvrengineer.co.uk/tvr-upgrades/rollbars/

Key points -

1) It is full height
2) It allows seat to go right back even if your tall (I am 6'2)
3) You do NOT hit your head on it
4) It is incredibly strong (a lot of the TR lane stuff doesn't look like it would support the car in the event of it actually going over)
5) It looks gorgeous (it is hand shaped to the car)

This a TR Lane modified by Caged to raise the height to max on drivers side and with MSA approved harness fittings.

It is now for sale if anyone's interested - Just testing reactions??

Even though I think my Lane bar is good for height it is probably average in strength, who knows, they're not Type Approved.

The best I have seen is the one fitted to my pal Precats car.

A 6 point fix to chassis and very well constructed, about £1K more then the TR Lane bar.

You pays your money etc.

Would the height make a real difference when the windscreen collapses !

Without wishing to join the ".....we're all doomed Capt Mainwaring"

Those of us who use our cars for MSA type events use Full Harness to restrain any movement. With that in mind a roll bar as high as possible gives some protection - ignoring your windscreen scenario - you would not wish to have a full harness and no roll bar.

Life's a compromise and you pays your money.

Ever wondered what would happen if someone runs into your drivers door ( T-Boned) and how will you survive??

Let's not ponder on doom & gloom please!!

As Trev says, max height is paramount.

Imagine being strapped in with a 4 point harness and rolling the car. The high point is your head as you can't move sideways,
The windscreen just folds as the front of the bonnet, the top of the roll bar and the ground form a triangle.

There was a guy killed some years ago as he flipped his chim, the car was completely flat inverted on its haunches frown
