What's in a namewhistle

After reading this I made a note of a few comments as follows

‘won't make the mistakes that have been made in the past'.
Carry forward the DNA of the brand
Respect TVR's heritage
Lots of background work

Well we will see what they come up with, will it be on the style of any of the past cars or a super car or the likes of Koenigsegg or Mclaren with a TVR badge, as they say time will tell.
Some of the past British sports cars are still regarded as the best in the world AC, Bristol, Jensen and TVR, I would like to see something that keeps the heritage and DNA that has been TVR.

I'd seen this news - and with all the usual cautionary caveats in place - my goodness how exciting could this be.

I don't know what the magic formulae is for successfully bringing back TVR - but I hope they've got it. Because the world would be a much much richer place with TVR back in it.

I'm positive.

UK owner, made money in computer games so likes being creative.
Has an ambition to drive an Aston at Le Mans - now will be able to drive a new breed of car there.

This is what he sould do (my opinion, but right)...
1. Ferrari beating coupe a'la evora but with big LS engine to be the new Sagaris.Sell at £85k
2. The big f@"£k off convertible "Griff 21st century" to rival the new F type jag
3. The cheap entry level car (basic fun convertible), a MX5 with balls - could be called the "New S"

Then put some work in to build it up, do some racing, and be successful

Job done wink

Hi All
I hope he does something different to what has been before, biggest problem is the old reputation that TVR had (not helped by programs like Top Gear and others).
Do they build in glass fiber or carbon, do they do for a US motor. European or look to the Asian market, what ever they do has to be fresh and bold, the old TVR technology is old and out of date, It needs a clean build.
For me it has to be a full carbon body and tub, rear engine and nothing less than 600hp or you might as well just go out and buy a this

My only fear is that modern legalities will dilute the 'feel' air bags, abs, traction control ect. Fingers crossed.

Tongue in cheek;

And I always wondered why pistonheads was so popular. Perhaps it is the commitment to spelling?

The bottom line is – does he have the cash? It cost 100's millions to develop a car to production even if they do use bought in engines/ transmissions /ECU’s.

Anyway, to dream - To “avoid the mistakes of the past”, limit the model range, use out of the box engines and spend the development budget on quality control of things like chassis, bodywork and trim. Here’s my list:-

THE MAD ONE - Sag with an LS7 engine

THE GORGEOUS ONE – Tuscan with an LS3 engine

THE SENSIBLE ONE – Tuscan with a BMW ‘M’ engine (4L V8)

ENTRY LEVEL – T350 OR Tamora with a BMW straight 6 engine (Z4 35i)

Once the marque has established a reputation for reliability and quality and the company has built a cash flow the it can develop its “vanity” projects.

Good luck Mr Edgar; got any jobs going Sir?

Hi All
As far as I understand the old moulds went to Germany and just got left in a warehouse, I remember there was a article about someone going to bring them back to the UK but they wern't any good ??, if that's the case it's start again with new moulds, if that is the case then it's an open book regarding design and engine / gear box selection.
As I see it you will have to find manufactures who will allow you to use there parts, not every one will be cueing up to provide these to a unknown company even with TVR's past.
Until we know the price level and details we are just blowing in the wind. I say good luck to the guy it's a bold adventure he is taking on.

Will this affect people selling replacement chassis and body parts, who owns the rights to these now

I hear what your saying about old technology, ... Imho if it says tvr on it it has to be glass fiber and the engine must be in the front , that is the DNA afterall?

Exactly, that's why there's no point in doing that.

The TVR "brand" says front engined, RWD, performance, striking design*. Trying to be yet another Ferrari look alike is going after the same customers that Noble, Lotus and McLaren and all the other mid-engined super car manufactures target. It makes sense to build on an established brand and produce a differentiated product and then evolve it. There’s also a big difference between “enthusiast” and customer – usually circ £75,000.

  • It also says a few other things but we’ll ignore these laugh

if you can make a modern day S for less than 20k, and it has to make that noise then i am sure it would sell. its all in finding a way around the rules. this is step no one for me.

I'm sure it would! But that's impossible for a small volume "bespoke" producer. The cheapest Morgan is £31,500.
