Think they may be slightly beyond the service limit. The last set I bought was years ago from a Jag main agent, and IIRC they were not cheap. Any suggestions for an alternative source please?

Hi

You can get them of F-bay for about £20.

You can, and most of them are cr&p mad

So I bought mine from David Manners and guess what, they were cr&p as well. The friction material isn't too well bonded to the backplates (in India, probably, with monkey spunk and llama farts), jut tightening the mounting nuts is enough to crack it.

Then of course your MOT tester puts the car on the rolling-road brake tester, spins up the wheels and pulls the handbrake - forces the pads should never see as a parking brake. Mine got shagged that way last year, they were on the car less than a week when they got trashed. The tester passed it but he must have felt something give as he left the car parked with the handbrake off afterwards...

When I rebuild my calipers (again) I plan to find out just what the problem is with the handbrake constantly going out of adjustment.

I've always thought that they get worn away by surface rust building up on the rear disks due to infrequent use.

IME it's more to do with heat, although I only do 1 trackday a year, it really does build up at the back, and I've previously seen the handbrake pads just crumbling.

You can superglue the pad back onto the backing plate - I've found it stays on there better than with the llama fart compound...
