Hi guys hope you can all help/advise?

Just been for a standard drive (not spirited) to the local supermarket and about 1/2 a mile from home there was an awful noise which I now suspect was some kind of drive/aux belt. I pulled over immediately as there was a smell of burning rubber.
I restarted the car and it was a little noisy but then eventually went away. The warning battery/generator light came on and I have lost my power steering. As I was so close to home I continued to get it back on the drive.

Now I am part of the hartech maintenance scheme so I will call them on Monday to discuss.

Would it be fine to drive the 10 or so miles to hartech or will it need to be recovered to there?

I will venture a guess that you have thrown a vee belt which drives the alternator and the power steering pump. Did it fall out onto the road?

No sign of the belt having left the car that I can see. My aircon has not been working recently which has got me thinking that the pump may be seized causing the belt to have snapped possibly?

I don't know anything about Cayman engines - but confirm that the broken belt doesn't also include the water pump before you drive too far.

When I suddenly lost power steering on my Cayenne (and got battery / alternator light) I figured I was only about 3 miles from home and may as well drive there - although steering a Cayenne without power steering is.... interesting.

I hadn't got too far before I noticed the water temp was a tad high. The Cayenne belt drives everything - about 8 pulleys. I'm sure the Cayman is different, but probably best if somebody confirms.

Having researched it more it appears it also drives the water pump as you rightly suggested.
Car will hopefully be being recovered tomorrow.
