How far down can you run them? ie to 10L left, 5L left?

I tend to run down to zero on the gauge. Although I don't have an Ultima fuel gauge, I did calibrate each side litre by litre with my electronic dash. What I did find is that there is around 5L of fuel in a tank before it even starts to register on the sender, so that tends to act as my reserve - but find a fuels station quick wink or is that frown

My Ultima gauges read zero when just under half a tank left. When they are both just below the zero on the gauges I refuel and tend to find around 13 litres left in each tank.

When I was building the car and first put fuel in using petrol cans I thought they weren't working as after 15 litres it was still below zero.

Can't you calibrate and adjust the gauges to get a more precise reading?

Not that I am aware of. I believe the shape of the tanks doesn't help (fatter at the bottom than the top).

But if anyone knows how to improve their performance I'd be happy to find out!

I have the Stack dash and you calibrate the fuel level in 10 steps.
0L fuel was a sender reading of 54
5L was 52
10L was 46

So you can pretty much consider the first 5L as lost from a gauge point of view but no where near the 15L quoted.

Never try to get the last few litres out of your tanks. You will bu**er your l/p fuel pumps first followed by the h/p pumps (LS engines) or run lean and cook a piston.

The tanks are supposed to hold 44lit each but you can only use about 35 litres safely each.

Personally vey parotid of running out of gas for a priming pump reason for my Cat R500 and Ultima. One pump runs sketchy the other is spot on. Carried away blatting in the hills of the south France hias me worrying as not many gas staions at all!

I'll keep this tip in mind when I get to calibrating the gauge which is also a Stack.

Thanks Steve

Not sure about calibrating the std analogue gauges, but most digital gauges will have a way to calibrate the senders to the dash.

I'm using a Race Dash 2 and have both tanks calibrated independently in 1litre increments from 0-40l. On the dash each tank displays as a percentage (screen 1 shows a single tank, but on screen 2, I have both tanks shown side-by-side, so can ensure they're both draining / balancing equally). I definitely recommend this setup for any new builders.

Dave fitted the can am with a spa gauge and shows increments off 10ths litre on a switch to show either tank I'm just not sure iff any spare fuel on zero or iff a reserv factored in yet another question to ask not that I'm gonna run It low

So have I (SPA), and I have set it so it shows empty with 5 ltrs in each tank...
