Looks like I won't get my V5 back for my latest car in time for Le Mans. However I did get the dealer to copy the oginal albeit with the first owners name on it and not mine. I thought with this and proof of purchase should it should suffice should I get stopped.
Any advice?.

"I had this problem 4 years ago. It is solved by going to your local Vehicle Licensing office who will issue a 'temporary' document that satisfies (in theory) the requirements of foreign countries. I cannot remeber doc no but if you need it let me know and I will get details. In fact I have kept that document in the vehicle permanently for frequent foreign travel.

I had this problem in March. And was stopped for heavy right foot. Courtesy & politeness in reasonable French explaining the situation with purchase invoice (obviously bearing the date of transaction, a fortnight before I left), together with well-presented documents (insurance, MOT, driving licence, passport) and visible fluorescent jacket meant that lack of V5 (=carte grise) was not a problem. Lack of currency was a problem - they held my documents whilst I went to an ATM 5km away.
