Too good to be true!!

Hi all.
Around five years ago we bought a new XK8 in Emerald fire. A lovely car that specced up was around £72,000.
On Saturday we were mooching around our local dealer and to cut a long story short were offered a new XKR to our spec which topped out at £84,000, for £68,000 delivery by end of July.
On top of this he offered £3,000 more than we expected on a trade in with our current XF.
Is there a catch? I cant see how a better car can be had for £4,000 less than was paid five years ago.
For what its worth we opted for Black Amethyst, (stunning in sunlight), Ivory interior.
We left a deposit and all we need to do today is press the "go button".
Are these sort of deals par for the course with Jaguar these days or have just been in the right place at the right time?

I think it's not uncommon.
For the XKR, Broadspeed are quoting 68K on an 84K car so it sounds as though the dealer is in the right ballpark.
My local main dealer said that if I wanted a new XJ they could do 20% off without even trying! They seem to be going the extra mile to get previous customers into the newer models.

The XK has been hit by a quadruple whammy
1. It's in its twilight years already 7 years old, 5 years ago it still could command a premium price
2. As mentioned the new kid on the block F Type
3. Newer external competition (German prestige)
4. Recession and access to finance
The market will always dictate what a price a car can be sold for. If I fully spec up an F Type V8S today I'd be paying over 90k because of demand, who doesn't think that in 3 years time that price will be nearer 80k for a higher spec car. This recession isn't going away, whilst everybody including the banks are counting the pennies. Dealers and manufacturers need to shift metal at a price the market sees fit.

I'd go for it. I bought a 2010 xkr convertible a few months ago. Very impressed with the car. Lots of performance and surprisingly good handling on relatively soft suspension.Around five years ago we bought a new XK8 in Emerald fire. A lovely car that specced up was around £72,000.

That's the bit I find surprising - it sounds like a fantastic deal for a superb car. Good call.On Saturday we were mooching around our local dealer and to cut a long story short were offered a new XKR to our spec which topped out at £84,000, for £68,000 delivery by end of July.

Well we pushed the button. Lovely XKR convertible should be on the drive in Six weeks. Mega value for money after our last two Astons. It will be interesting to compare the wow factor.
Will post pics when we take delivery. Will wait for the sun though to show its true colours.

I'm another ex Aston owner, I remember seeing you on the forum at the same time I owned mine. You had a V12 Vantage from memory? Will post pics when we take delivery. Will wait for the sun though to show its true colours.
I'm now in the XKR gang too, and never looked back. Eventually I feel like I'm in a modern car and drives a load better than my Vantage. You may miss the noise, the Aston's have a great sound, but the XKR gives a bigger punch. I bought an after market exhaust, phhheew it sounds fantastic!

Hi Also a ex Aston owner here,I am currently in a 5.0 XKR,how are you finding your XKR-S i am thinking of changing to one my only concern is how is the ride compared to the "normal" XKR,I have only been on a short test drive but it felt quite a bit firmer. simon
awg I have driven the xkr and honestly the difference between the two cars as far as suspension is concerned is that the xkr gives alot more steering feedback and confidence in drivingmy wife does not like what she calls focused cars with hard unforgiving suspension but shes had no problem with the xkrs. The car is epic the torque emmense and gear changes are rapid a great great car I promise you.Hope this helps.

When mine arrives I will be happy to do a comparison.
Why I changed is not too complicated. After having a V8 Vantage Roadster, followed by a V12V, becoming a grandmother meant I had a pressing need for a saloon to incorporate a baby seat.
Hence getting an XF. Now as lovely as it is, I quickly began to miss the 'sports car' experience. I investigated the practicality of putting a seat into a GT and found whilst not ideal by any means,it is possible for the few occasions I will need it.
Having spent a shed load on a new car for our daughter and a new kitchen, funds could no way stretch to what I would like in the Aston range.
We used to have an XK and loved it, so curiosity led me to enquire about the XKR.
With the deal offered it was a no brainer and its a hell of a car for the money. Its £15,000 less than we paid for my year old V8V 5 years ago. And £4,000 less than my OH paid for the XK (co.car) at the same time. I cant wait to drive it.
The plan is to drive it for a couple of years whilst saving the pennies then fingers crossed be able to find and afford my dream car a V12V roadster.
A lot can happen in a couple of years though so we will see. Hopefully I will be smitten enough to remain with Jaguar.
Strangely, I expect I am in the minority but I can't fall in love with the looks of the F Type yet. Maybe it will grow on me.

Drove the f-type today and just love the sound when the loud button pressed, the car I was lent was a v6 s I was very impressed by the way it drove but sorry its no xk,the quality of the interior I felt was very cheap and plasticky and the car had only covered 1700 miles and there was already signs of leather wear on bolsters.I truly believe car is over priced by around 20k and feel that a slk or boxster would give it a run for its money and a lot less in cost. The car looks stunning, drives fantastic but does not feel anywhere near its cost sorry but jaguar need to do something with the trim inside the v6 s such as more alcantera and leather on dash and door cards etc to make it feel more classy.God how glad iam that I bought my xkrs as it feels so so much better than the f type in quality.
just my opinion guys
