I've just had to replace the nearside Lamda sensor for the second time in 4000 miles. Both times the ECU fault reader flagged a problem and sure enough when the n/s sensor is taken out the cover is completely gone leaving something like a spark plug.
The O/S sensor is still working.

Any ideas what could cause this?

My car has a 4.6 litre V8 Developments engine with stage 3 heads and big valves Mark Adams chip etc.

Id check the plug colours on both sides of the V8 and see if they are significantly different. I cant imagine that a lambda probe would get so hot to disintegrate without other symptoms however.

Do you have Pre cats? They might be loose in the manifold or breaking up and damaging the lambda.
