Time for a tune up???
Discussion
I was driving out of Carmarthen the other day on an A road and what suddenly appears in the rear view? A bloody Renault 5 GT Turbo, spoiling for a fight!
He was behind me (infact pretty much up my ass) and I though "Ha, I leave the little titrat in my dust".
Floored it in 2nd gear, up to 5.5Kprm, into 3rd, again up in the highish rev's, checked my mirror and the little f
ker is still right behind me, and now trying to overtake me!!! Luckily for me, we came up to a queue of cars and both had to slow down. He then pulled down a side road to turn around and head back to Carmarthen to no doubt go and brag to the other Chavs about how he almost wiped the floor with a TVR!
Now, I know that the 4.0l Chim isn't the quickest in the world, and I know that those little R5 GT's can be souped up a fair bit, but, bloody hell, it left me a little shocked!! We only got up to 70ish, and I'm sure that any faster I would have pulled away. But still . . . . . . a R5!!
So, it's time for a trip to Tower View or Austec for a service, injector clean and anything else I reckon! See if I can reclaim a little lost performance!
Am I the only one or has anyone else ever been suprised and almost humiliated by one of the Max Power lads?
Fair play to the lad though!

Had a Cooper s Works climbing all over the back of my old 4.0l Griff early part of the year. Couldnt shake the little
off, but... it was my 1st drive of the year, damp morning, down a small B road...no honest, its not 'cos I cant drive for toffee, honest

When this happens, let them pass you and follow - give you a chance to assess how fast they really are. I like to let them get a little bit ahead, wait for a nice clear stretch then catch/pass them. Puts them in their place.
Seriously though, in this instance if you only got to 70ish mph the Renault probably would be able to keep up with a bit of extra boost - remember they are 7secs of so to 60 in std trim. a 20mph to 70mph sprint won't make much difference. Unless it's a dragstrip monster as mentioned earlier you'll be able to slaughter him off the line and at any speed over 80mph where aerodynamics will come into play (not that TVRs are that aerodynamic, but R5s are like bricks).

Thats brick throwing embarrasment...
The only times I've had someone keep up with me, is when the said auto is a two wheeler...
I've had a souped up big wing 911 turbo up my arse, and I just flicked it into 3rd and I could see me stretching further away... although, when I came up to the roundabout, I had to slow riiiight down, whilst the 911'er just shot round it like a train on rails!
