I brought a friends road bike from him in August and in November I hit a pot hole and had a bad crash landing fully on my head (it took all 15 stone of me). Helmet saved my life but Ive had bad whiplash and although its better I still have it now. I see a Physio for it but should probably go more.

Ive upped my miles and go 2 - 3 times a week (on Turbo if I cant get out), Sunday I did my first 40 miles and while I could have done more my shoulders and neck are suffering.

With the help of a friend Im going to check my riding position (found various sites to help) because I am fairly sure its my posture that needs looking at.

Has anyone else experience similar? I presume my shoulders are taking too much of my weight but not sure if Im sitting too high or bars are too low etc

Get a picture of you on the bike uploaded?

Do ride on the bars/hoods/drops mostly?

Is the bike too small/big?

What bike is it and what size it?

Takes time for the body to adjust when you up the miles

I got much the same when I moved from MTB to road bike. I was fit enough to do the miles, but wasn't used to the leant forward position, leading to a sore neck and sholders until I had managed a few rides.

Will check the size tonight, hold the hoods mainly, its a starter bike from Decathlon. Its a Triban 3 which has had some great reviews, has decent components.

Post the size and your height, would be good for starters

I would say that if your crash was severe enough, then you'll still be suffering from that.

I got rear-ended (oo-er0 missus) in the car about July/August last year, and it's only from reading this that I've realised in the last month or so it's not troubling me so much.

It takes a lot longer than you think to get over these things.

I found that doing rowing type exercises and in particular 'upright rows' with a barbell or dumbbells, hit all the right muscles and I no longer get pain in that area (trapezius muscle).

Obviously if you have damage in that area, seek medical advice before doing any exercises etc etc....

See the Physio more.
I had a couple of fairly big crashes over a six month period then suffered with what you describe - but also had really bad headaches at the base of my skull.

Had 12 weeks of regular Physio to sort it out - but it worked.

You're right. I text her tonight and she had a moan at me and said the same.

The bike is a 54 frame and I'm 5ft 10 so is the correct frame. I tried to relax and drop my shoulders some more and that helped a little on a ride last night.
