I have a Z3M roadster, but wouldn't expect costs to be that much different. Get about 25mpg, if not too heavy on the fun pedal. Insurance costs me £230 pa as a second car on a classic policy, limited to 3000 miles pa. Think on an s50 you are probably 10k miles between services, so every second year or so (change the oil annually yourself for about £70) probably about £500 per service if use a good indie.
Generally z3m owners reckon that the running costs are relatively modest compared to most other cars of similar performance. But make sure that you get a good well looked after one.

Are you planning on using this as a second car?
If so, then you can ignore most of the £1k fuel cost (because you'd be fuelling the main car if you didn't have the Z, so it's just putting the same fuel in a different car) and you could probably get a cherished / classic insurance policy.
So that means net fuel cost is only about £200, insurance £400 tops, service £300, tax and mot £300. Which leaves loads of bork fund within your budget.
And that, ladies and gents, is the sort of man maths that gets you into the stupid position of having 3 cars ...
ETA: I'll be watching this thread with interest as I've pretty much decided on a Z3MC as the next toy when the current fleet thins out a bit.

Recent vanos work and boot floor repaired by BMW in 2008.
Boot floor repair as in the subframe / boot floor issue that the E46 M3 suffers from???I'm looking at getting one of these as a track car but I may go back to Plan A (996 Porsche 911) if it suffers from the same problem.
I'd say £300 a month is definitely do-able.
Assume 20mpg so 200 gallons @ £6.50 = £110ish a month.
Servicing £500 a year average = £40ish a month.
Tax and MOT = £30ish.
£170 per month leaving £130 a month for insurance and slush fund.
With the mileage your doing servicing will be cheaper as an oil service is circa £120 or so at an Indy and at 4k per year an Ins will be every three years so I would say probably £250 a year to service over a three year period (2 oil and 1 Ins) . MPG is likely to be mid 20's on average too.
I looked at these in great detail before opting for a Z4M roadster if I had space I'd have one a second car for sure.
