plugged my reader in and shows fault code p2453 linked to the particulate filter so I believe. cant believe having issues with just 20k on the clock. believe I can put an additive in the tank and run the engine at fast idle to burn out the soot any views please thanks

If the car has been used on short journeys, then the DPF can block. I am looking at getting mine taken off my Volvo and getting the software taken off. Also helps with fuel economy too and performance gains thrown in.

Modern diesels do seem to have serious running cost issues including the particle filters and Dual Mass Flywheels. A number of my clients seem to have less than reliable diesels currently. Perhaps the technology required to achieve the remarkable claimed MPG and smoothness in modern diesels is a tad too fragile.

If your wife only does short journeys then removel of the dpf is the best option as it will cause you nothing but trouble otherwise.
It's perfectly legal to have it removed.

Amd in Thurrock do a lot of dpf removel work so worth a call to them.

UPDATE ok spoke with a reputable firm who re map and remove the partical filters lol how ever they say the later 2010 cars if they have a certain make of filter then they cant be removed !! so spoke with ford and they want to charge 45 plus vat for a diagnostic, they also say that ford may need to down load an update for the car, also the diagnostic wont pin point the actual component just the fault that could be a few items, so sounds little hit and miss, they didn't agree with removing the filter and said the remaps are a pain at best of times! the final words from ford were ^ take it for a thrash down the motorway* and sell it !!! as new diesel cars are a pain sell and get a petrol as what you save on fuel you pay out ten fold in repairs .. what do you make of all that any thoughts oh and a new filter from ford is 620 plus vat plus fitting. oh and they also said those who look after their diesels and don't thrash them and careful on mileage are those that will have issues, so reading between the lines back to the boy racer days again lol. another thought it looks like a diesel is out of the question then with all these 20 mph limits coming in, so why do they make them not every one is motor way use. the world has gone crazy and getting crazier... save the planet ??? yer right !!!!! am I missing something ?? to end put a bottle of regen fluid in the tank and gave her a good hot burn out, so far all good will see how the week goes. bye for now

At 20k miles in 2 ish years, it's probably not a huge surprise that the DPF has clogged. Time and time again you'll read of similar stories, from people who wanted to save money on fuel and ended with huge repair bills.

Can I suggest that every other week or so, you take it onto the motorway and drive keep the speed up for a hundred miles or more. It's only at sustained high speeds that the ecu goes into DPF regen mode, which squirts diesel onto the hot filter in an attempt to burn off the soot.

If you don't, expect large bills to follow!
