Hey guys,

So I need to run hdmi from my sky hd box and Apple TV from the lounge to the kitchen tv, and in turn I want to send ir signal back to control them.

Is there a way of doing this I'm missing?

Best I have found so far is something like this:

kenable HDMI Extender Over Network Ethernet LAN Wallplates inc IR Repeater Kit
http://amazon.co.uk/dp/B007U92SY0

However this only had one hdmi so would have to fit a splitter too

Any better suggestions?

The two rooms are next to eachother but the sky box in far corner of lounge and tv on far wall of kitchen so if guess about 10m of cable needed?

And the house is being refurbished so running CAT6 cables / a long hdmi lead isn't a problem.

Thanks a lot for that, it sure does help.

Ill take a look into some of the suggestions you made tonight.

What's your opinion on the product I posted (and other similar ones on the market?) a good neat package or a bit of a cheap Chinese gimmic?

Send HDMI & IR signals over 2 standard UTP CAT5/5E/6 cables Standard 1G Uk Faceplates. A great design that enables you to send a HDMI signal over LAN cables for up to 100m with its built in infared system its all you need for that professional finish

Run a Co-ax between the two positions. You could then use a Magic-Eye to control the Sky box on the RF2 out. Can't you just use the Remote App on a iPad or iphone to control the ATV?

10 m is okay for an HDMI cable, as said get a good quality one and test it before you run it through the walls. I would also run a couple of Cat5/6 as spares.

Check out the Labgear HDMI splitters, I've had good results from these. http://www.labgear.co.uk/category/hdmi/hdmi-splitt...

Don't forget you can control the Sky box via an app/WiFi now. No need for an IR blaster etc. I've used the iPhone one, not sure if there is an Android one.

I have used those wall plates when I installed my TV in the bedroom. I didn't want boxes or wires cluttering up the wall so I put the Sat Box in the loft and ran the cables in the wall to behind the TV.

So far despite my general ineptitude it has performed well. The only point to note is that the IR needs a 5v power supply to the output plate. It has a connector on the back so what I did was put the supplied 5v transformer in the loft and run the cable in the wall with the CAT5 to the back of the plate. Job jobbed.

I have a 50ft HDMI cable running from one room to the other, and use one of these:

Cablesson - IR Injector - IR over HDMI Remote Control Extender Kit.

There is a wire on the HDMI cable standard specifically for remote control and this device makes use of it. It works very effectively with my Sky+ HD box.

I use these too. I have a pair running from a 4x2 matrix on 10m powered hdmi cables. One works better than the other, but I think this is to do with the matrix giving priority to channel one rather than anything else.

Downsides - I have broken one as they are a bit on the cheap side, and also make access limited due to the increased length of connection but do the job if you just want to use hdmi cables
