I saw this red with white roof MK1 / MK2 mini, and its really ROTTED though. the wings and sills are gone. nothing left in this car to be rescued.

but i noticed something different. Dont know what engine size is. it has weber carb, with not so standard rocker cover. and got those early rally GP2 type arches. sitting on 10" comosic alloys. it has a rear work sytle light on the rear bootlid, also rear wiper.

Interior is different as well. it has 2 bucket seat, with rear seat with leather 3 piece dashboard with 80mph clock in the middle, with rev counter, lots of gauges. typical mk1 / mk2 door with black doorcard look pretty good too bad itwas rotted though.
and got 6 pedal in the car. 3 each side. with steering rank holder on ethier side, only steering wheel is used on right hand.

Does anyone know this car? DRT 353C is the reg number.

I could take pic of it. but i guess you have to wait until monday. so i can go visit it again.

Is it for sale, has it got a V5? I want it, I want it. I'll buy it (for a sensible price).

What is the engine code? I reckon it probably has a lairy engine.......Dunlop alloys are a poor mans choice though.

Keep us posted and DON'T THROW THE ENGINE AWAY. EN40 crank SC box, etc, etc

I've got a Mk 1 shell that would be easy to restore.
Emmachisit? Would the owner sell.
I'll be off line until 8th Nov after today as I'mm off to sunnier climes for just over a couple of weeks, but I'm interested if it is available, even if it does't have a genuine 'S' lump (I've got a spare block and 2 spare cranks).
It would re-build into a superb historic rally car with, say, 112 bhp engine, s/c, c/r box, etc, and all the seam welding and safety features added. a replica of my 'Red' car, in fact. What a nice project and to keep such a car alive is good for the soul.
It would cost about £6,000 to rebuild and prepare if you do all the work yourself including the bodywork.

nice little find there.

if the car is a mk 1 cooper s its worth buying and breaking for parts. the paperwork is worth between 1200 - 1500. if its a cooper its worth about 500. make sure you understand all the legal issues involved in how/why/when selling logbooks or reshelling cars.

the engine and box would be worth about 750 as a built unchecked s engine, 1500 in bits if you stripped it and its all std/std. a 998 cooper motor would be worth a couple of hundred.

the small bits and pieces on the car would be worth a few hundred quid - rusty cooper s discs are worth 100, rhd fuel tank if its got one 150,

like i said - a nice find!

If you try and re-register it, you might get in trouble as there are people who work for DVLC who are against this sort of stuff. £5000 fine or up to 2 years in prison. Think about it. That is a parts car.

If you don't agree with dodgy Coopers, all you have to do is to email "vehicles.dvla@gtnet.gov.uk" with the registration number and EVIDENCE that the car doesn't exist. ie: a picture.

If you own a proper cooper, you are probably against people polluting the market with non-original cars. If you are a buyer, you probably don't want to pay £10000 for a normal Mk1 mini.

my point exactly.

log booking cars at a base level is illegal (its called ringing if crooks do it) the only way that this car would ever see the road again would be with a new heritige shell, or i think you can use a old shell of the correct age, many of the components of the original car would need to be used and the car inspected afterwoods. if the d.v.l.a where not happy with the result then the car would be issued with a 'q' plate.

never the less 's' paperwork and rusty dead shells are a valuable asset, particually for historic racers due to the rule changes that require cars that race or rally as cooper s's to actually have the paperwork. it is in this area that i mentioned prices.

if vroom wants to purchase the car i think its only fair that he/she should be aware of pitfalls and worth rather than someone telling them that the car is worth 50 quid!

i would like to point out that i dont know vroom, the owners of the car, where it is, nor an i interested in it, the parts, the paperwork etc. i.e i have nothing to gain in any transaction.

i would also reccomend that vroom looks into all the legal issues with both claiming the paperwork back, reshelling etc as to do it all correctly is both important and time consuming. of course you can screw the plates onto a 1990s mayfair and enjoy a tax free car, but when the police come knocking its not funny anymore. this has happened to several of my customers one who got a custodial sentance.

hope the above clears up my opinion on the subject

Shell's sagged in teh middle, poor thing. I have photos of a worse one mind you, bodywork has completely come away from the floorpan. It is literally going back to the earth.

If I remember rightly, Rog, you found a minisprint rotting away in a garage! What happened to that?

Stu (minisprint project still unstarted, other mini waiting for me to earn more ££££££)

Rog

Hey Rog, we know where there's a shell that would be ideal for this to build an Historic Rally car. Don't forget, I have a genuine 1275 'S' block, crank, rods, etc.
We have the technology - we could re-build it!
