I've got a '92 4.0l Griff. The steering is showing signs of wear with a small amount of play (rotation) yet the UJs and track rod ends seem solid. So it looks like I'm facing a replacement (manual) rack. I've trawled the web and found that TVRPOWER provide reconditioned units but I also found this site http://www.geocities.ws/pbtn6/parts.htm#Brakes which suggests that my rack may have come from a Rover. If that's right can anyone tell me which Rover it comes from? And maybe a supplier in the NorthWest - Thanks

Hi Grif 4.0, I have a 92 4.3 and my rack is a Ford (has Ford on it)! Look closely at the top of teh rack, towards the L/H side. Believe its from an Escort as the new track rod ends I bought are for that car also. I have a small amount of play in the near side, picked up on a recent MOT, but my tester was no too worried, it does not seem to affect the handling at all.Hope that helps, Pete

I had play in the near side of the manual rack on my Griff 500. As far as I'm aware this rack is not a typical part from any other car and is TVR only.
Instead of opting for a recon rack I unscrewed the Knuckle on the nearside of the rack and removed the arm and carefully ground a small amount off of the face of the cup using the side of a fine wheel of a bench grinder. Then cleaned it, re packed it with grease and screwed it back on. No play now!! smile

Thanks for the reply guys. Mine has got a big TVR logo across the top - no signs of any other manufacturer's stamp so I guess I'm looking at a Blackpool special.
