Cosworth Engines in Caterhams
Discussion
Hmmm...I think that, given the fact that both Rover (sales down 1/3 from next-to-nothing to 66% of next to nothing, according to recent news reports) and Cosworth (tangled up with recent Ford cut-backs at Jaguar and with the Jag F1 programme) have questionable futures, I'm happy that Lotus has an engine supplier who is both financially stable and has a reputation for reliability.
I'd rather see the company make exceptional products and survive, rather than superlative products with no future!

The reason for using the Celica engine was because of US emissions regs. I doubt the Cosworth engine would pass!
The VVTi is a fabulous piece of kit and turns the 111R into a real monster when it comes on cam. I'm quite happy with it being in the Elise (absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I'm considering getting one!).

i thin kthe VWA groups 1.8 turbo would be nicer than the old Cossy. and as these things power most of VWA groups cars they are dirt cheap to come by. also will support around 300bhp and similar torque with only minor mods and a few bolt ons. i think there is a company already doing convertions (read and article in praticel performance by dave walker on one). anyone have any links?
thanks Chris.
PS, if you want to run an 2.0 turbo then take a look at the EVOs 4G63t unit. very strong (some are running in the 900bhp band) and very tunable! the only problem would be getting a box thats fits, but thats all part of the fun. LOL.
