Intercom advice

I have installed a Terratrip/Terraphone Pro intercom system with full face helmets. I am having an issue with the intercom picking up the engine noise, the turn signal noise, wind noise, etc. so it is constantly activated and rather loudly pumping the noise into the headsets. In order to stop it, I have to turn the noise suppression up to where it won't pick up our voices anymore unless we yell.
I had emailed terratrip and they suggested that I use the clubman headsets instead of the noise canceling pro headsets. They said the noise canceling mic doesn't work well in an open cockpit vehicle, which I thought odd since the closed face helmet effectively takes the mic out of the open air. So I reluctantly spent more money and bought the clubman headsets and of course it made no difference.

Anyone have a similar experience? Any suggestions? Or is the Terratrip just rubbish and I should have bought the Peltor in the first place (which I now have spent about the same amount of money on the terratrip)?

I've not used the Terratrip but most 7 owners have a motorbike intercom. I have an Autocom that works very well and lots of people are using Starcom (who I now believe own Autocom). I saw another post on here a few weeks back about another brand that seemed to do the job too. If they work on a bike they will work in a 7.

Unfortunately, as with Shaun I have never used a Terratrip - I have a Starcom setup with bluetooth that I use with both Peltor ear defenders and a helmet, and that works really well.

I am surprised that the mic inside the closed face helmet is picking up so much though.

What kind of headphone connectors do those use?
I initially had an American brand motorcycle intercom system and it had 5 or 6 pin connectors that were constantly breaking so I switched to the terratrip because it uses an RCA jack connection and figured thats what we used for Rally cars, it should work in a 7. Strange

I guess the noise is different in a closed cockpit car. In an open car the wind is the main culprit and bike intercoms are designed to cope with that. Yes they use multi-pin connectors but I've not had an issue with the Autocom ones. I've used ours with open face helmets (with a full face visor) and an aero-screen and they were fine. They worked well with practice headsets (ear defender type) when I had a windscreen and I also have some in-ear headsets which I much prefer to the ear defender type.

Have you experimented with the microphone position?

I use a scala rider Q2 Bluetooth intercom which I can thoroughly recommend - with aeroscreen and full face lids you can clearly hear the other person up to past 100mph. If the microphone is placed badly you can't hear anything other than wind noise though - you need visor fully closed and the microphone deep inside the helmet for it to work properly. I don't think any noise cancelling microphone can really cope with being in high speed airflow!

I will try repositioning the mic, though it is in the middle of the mouth shroud so I would think it should be far enough into the helmet, but we'll see.
The biggest problem I am having is that it is picking up the engine noise (more so than the wind), which is strange because even in an enclosed rally car the cacophony is quite loud so one would think it should be able to suppress the background noise
