Very sad. One of things that appeals to me about US motorsport is the way drivers seem to have more freedom to move from series to series on an almost ad hoc basis, especially through the NASCAR ladder. The fact you get guys moving between Nationwide, trucks, divisional series, ARCA, USAC and so on has a certain innocence to it that's seems lost from other areas of racing. Sure it's as much to do with cold hard finances than romance, but you get the impression a lot of these guys flit about because they simply want to be driving something every weekend. Sadly, some things are clearly more risky than others
