Hi,

I’ve booked my TVR in for a service and they’re going to have a quick look at the diff for me. It’s been knocking on and off throttle at times, and it sometimes grinds or skips at slow speeds so I guess it needs looking at. Question is, do I have it rebuilt, or do I replace it?

If I replace it, what should I replace it with? The car is a 1997, so I think it has the BTR(?) diff. I’ve been quoted £250 plus parts to rebuild it, if I take it out myself and take it to my local motorsport engine and gearbox specialist.

Thanks,

Dan

Are you confident in the abilities of the local specialist in doing the rebuild?

If I were going for a rebuild I'd probably stick to the ones that people on here have used...

Oh yes, my friend maintains a lot of historic racing cars, even some old F1 cars, and any serious engine or gearbox work he sends over to this chap: http://www.brettsimsmotorsport.co.uk/index.html

I'm pretty confident he knows what he's doing. He seemed to know a lot about them when we spoke.

I meant should I replace with new or upgrade with something better? Or will that be mega expensive?
