Emerald Map for a DVA K05 kit - MOT compliant!!!

Don't Emerald use a 3 position rotary knob with one of the position being for the MoT emissions? I have an Emerald for my Zetec, with the knob, but can't for the life of me remember which position was for the MoT. Do they use the same switch positions on all cars?

You can have a switch installed to select different maps, which I don't have - or a suitable map to pass the MOT, just my old one which I have to manually load in to the ECU. Not a problem, I just need a map to get me through.

I have the said 3 map system on my K05 1.6, set up as

Map 1 Full Power
Map 2 MOT
Map 3 Touring

After mapping I presented the car with map 2 selected for the MOT, got no where near low enough CO2 readings to get a pass. Fortunately I was allowed to connect the laptop and back off the fuelling until it just get through before the Hydrocarbons shoot up! Same process every year now.

Here is the advice from Dave Walker at Emerald

The settings in the ECU which give the best idle condition seldom meet the requirements of the MoT test. For most cars this test requires a catalytic converter to be fitted into the exhaust.

To get the mixture right for the test start by making sure that the engine is hot, not warm but HOT. Using the software select the live mapping page: F8 on the keyboard. Control keys 1, 2 and 3 alter the fuelling while running the engine.

Key number 3 will add fuel with each tap of the key and you can see this as a trim in the fuel mapping box. Key number 2 will reduce the fuelling. With the gas analyser connected alter the fuelling until the settings allow the emissions to pass the test. This will be at idle and at 2500rpm. After you have finished the test, press key number 1 to cancel any trims and the map will return to normal.

For running full time with a cat fitted trim the fuelling as above but first make sure that the lambda closed loop control (under Additional maps) is turned OFF. Once you have the required settings press the “enter” key to store the new setting in the map. When you have finished enable the closed loop but limit the mixture swing to about 3%.

instead of buggering about with maps cant you goto a more friendly mot man.

I cant tell you what mine does but i've had emmisions simillar to various cars he's had in the workshop that day.

For your MOT tester's sake don't ever mention who he is or where his business is on here.

Thanks All - especially the Dave Walker guide. However, when I installed my old map yesterday it was well within limits - didn't drive very nicely but did the trick.
