Spotted - decat bypass pipes on eBay
Discussion
Just found this on eBay, someone could pick up a bargain. I'd bid for em but unfortunately, I just collected my nice new ones from Tower View yesterday. Tried jacking car and squeezing underneath to fit em myself. Bad idea. Going local garage with 4 post on Monday morning to fit em, cant wait.

for a 4.2,
i ( hope?) presume they will also fit a 4.5
don't think so, I was told they're different in some way, not sure how though.
I'm sure a post will follow from someone with more knowledge on this.
There are two lengths I believe. 17" and 16.25". my 96 4.2 had 17" cats that I spent the afternoon replacing with a couple of decat pipes (thanks joolz).
Not too bad a job, but I had to buy a couple of wheel ramps from halfords and use a 3ft plank of wood on each to reduced the angle so I could back the car up without damaging the paintwork.
Managed to snap 3 bolts trying to get them off, due to rust, and the others weren't in good condition, so make sure you have replacement bolts ready. I'd also recommend buying a 13mm ratchet spanner. There isn't much space around the cats and my socket ratchet wouldn't fit. It took ages to get them off with normal wrenches, putting them back on with a ratchet wrench took a quarter of the time.
Ideally you'll need 2 people to do the job if you don't have a lift, as 3 hands are very useful when you're lying on your back getting all sweaty

Word of waring, those pipes look very very long to be going on a newish 4.5.
and they look the perfect length for a old 4.2
Driving to work this morning and it was a little fumey, so I think I need to tighten up the bolts a bit this weekend.
The Cerb seems more responsive now, but one of the cats had broken down so that's probably why it feels better with them off.
