How do you find the cold starts?

I also use BR8ECS (normally aspirated) - cold starts fine and no fouling issues even with a wappy cam but would prefer 7s as I think the 8s are just a tad hard. Trouble is NGK don't make a resistor 7 with the ECS electrode. We'll see how it goes when the hair-drier is finally added...

9s eek I'm not surprised they were fouling, what coil packs are you using? I have the gen 1 ford coil packs and the spark is unbelievably strong so have the plugs gapped as they come out of the box, ( i had a lead blow off, just held in by the heat proof sock, and must have been over an inch away from the plug, it didnt miss a beat cool)
I was advised to gap the 8s at 28 thou but I don't believe I needed to with such a strong spark.
Might be a week or two for the pictures but I will send them as soon as I can

Well just using the rover. P38 pack, I do have some better Bosch coils but that for the future. Good news on the pictures smile

Any idea what the plugs should be gapped at ??

If you're using ECS type plugs, they will be .6mm out the box and are not intended to be altered (NGK say it weakens the ground prong which is a more robust design than a conventional plug)

I've never used that particular variant but 0.6 is fairly consistent for NGKs in my experience... I would imagine the electrode would be pretty fine on a modern precious metal plug so would be cautious of tweaking

0.8mm is the standard pre-set gap on NGK plugs unless they are wide gap type (i.e BCPR6EY-11 which are shipped 1.1mm) or specials, you can alter gaps but under no circumstances lever of the centre electrode eek instead use a proper plug gapping tool wink never seen an NGK plug lose a ground electrode in over 25 years of fitting them nerdhttp://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=i&source=images...

NGK technical literature said:
The re-gapping of fine wire spark plugs that have very small diameter platinum or iridium alloy electrodes is not recommended due to the risk of damaging the electrodes. Virtually all NGK spark plugs are set to the correct gap for the catalogue applications at the point of manufacture.
The part number will tell you the gap if not 'standard' - if the plug number has a one or two digit number at the end, that equates to the gap at manufacture; ie a plug ending with 8 has a 0.8mm gap set, one with 11 has a gap of 1.1 - plugs with no number are set to the standard 0.6 in my experience

Have to correct you there Pupp no stock late fitment NGK comes gapped at 24 thou/0.6mm tongue out 32 thou/0.8mm is the norm I fit the friggers daily laugh

What exactly do you 'ave' to correct? My description of the NGK numbering system or my experience (if the latter, WTF do you know of it)? Be specific man, and stop puffing your chest out like that as you strut about; you look like a pigeon hehe
