Discussion
I guess it was bad news after the inital post of sheared sprocket.
Very sorry.
A couple of 4.2 engines on ebay from a premium breakers.
I take it valve and piston damage?
If it makes you feel better i'm replacing for MOT
Drive shaft, Rear droplinks, front drag bushes.
Noticed while i was under fuel pump needs re-wiring, Slave leak, oil transfer pipe leak, timing cover leak, worn steering boots, worn top ball joint boot & front brake overhaul.......
All offerings to the god of speed!

Never been one to prescribe to the "throw a secondhand engine in it" philosophy. If the engine wears out or breaks, surely it should be removed and rebuilt rather than inheriting another unknown engine and its prospective problems. If you can't afford to fix it properly sell it......

So if it's put a rod through a liner and the block what do you do?
There's no harm putting a used engine in, if you do it yourself you'd be looking at a £2k bill, not £4k plus for a rebuild.
I'd still rebuild a used engine. I wouldn't put more potential problems into my car. There's no harm putting a used engine in, if you do it yourself you'd be looking at a £2k bill, not £4k plus for a rebuild.
