Right its about time I sorted this out.

The dim dip box has signs of burning on the connectors. I can by pass the connector as per this thread

How do I check that the box is actually at fault. As I understand it there could be other boxes at fault.

Or I could just go the Fubar route.... Central TVR are doing a hid upgrade fitted for £150, and as I need a new headlight anyway whistle

I fixed Fubar's lights a good few years back by bypassing the connector. Afaik they're still working.

The belt and braces fix is to also run a feed to the headlamps and fit relays so the control box just drives the relays.
It was one of the first things I did in the continuous improvement program and I've never had a problem with charred connectors in the control box.

It also massively improved the brightness since it was all brand new cable with the shortest possible run - fused feeds direct from the battery and the returns to the earth point on the front chassis rail. New reflectors and hi power halogen bulbs completed the 'upgrade'.

HiD's for me, uses the boxes in the boot just to control the lights, all power is fed via relays mounted under the F1 cover.

Driving long distance at night is no longer a struggle.

I suffered the old 'burnt out connector' issue.

After a minor fire I found this:

I decided to cut off what remained of the connector, and soldered tails to the remaining tangs. I then used bullet connectors to join it to the loom. I made certain that I surveyed the connections and coloured wires very carefully before I cut anything. I ended up with this:
