Any working abroad tax free experts?

99% got a job working abroad in Afghanistan. But what I need to know starting work in Aug what's my tax situation etc.
The salary is paid over a 280 billable days so whilst I'm in Afghan I'm paid with rotations of 12 weeks on 4 off. The salary therefore for 280 days is circa £105k. So over a calendar year I'm back in UK for approx 80 odd days. Will I be earning tax free straight away or have to wait until this end of financial year? Company I'll be working for is American. Any tax free gurus help appreciated!

Are you ex mil, have 10 yrs experience plus, WO or above and Security Cleared? Also its not Security work. I ask this as you state you are an admin assistant on your profile and they are looking at more technical personnel. Not slating your chosen career etc but just didnt want to disappoint you with knock back.

No that's fine I understand where you're coming from I don't have a military/security background. I was interested just to see what other roles they are recruiting for. I've done a variety of things over the last 7 years, so I was wanted to see they had anything I could apply myself to or aim for.
There are a couple of places you can look. See Supreme Fuels, im not working for them, but they do have admin type roles on their website. Some in Afghan and some in UAE. Other sites are KBR, Agility Logistics or look on Expat Forums.
Working in Afghanistan is totally different from working in other Expat type roles abroad. Not just the danger side of life but living conditions. My role is the result of over 10 years (25 actually) working in my particular field, also the 3 tours of Afghan have helped. So working over there for me is a bit like a second home (i can think of better!) but what you dont want to do is go over there and within weeks find out its not for you. Depending what you do the Contractor world is sometimes small so there will be no second chances. Ill be working on my own in one particular place so again its can get some getting used to which is why sometimes they prefer ex-mil types as we can just crack on and get it done.

Sorry, i wasnt making out its wholly ex mil types for contract work. It was just the roles and areas where ive been looking like Somalia, Congo and Afghanistan is easier to get with a mil background. It wasn't Afghan I was looking at, but I know that companies that operate in those sorts of areas do tend to have operations in Saudi, UAE, etc as well which is where I'm interested in working.

Cheers Mickrick, just come off the phone with them and very helpful. Especially as im in a split tax year and new regs coming out soon. Will employ them to take the worry out of it.
