Only twice, I cuurently have a preorder on with the local games shop for GTA V - I know I'm going to buy it, and everytime I go in I can stick a couple of quid on so come release day it'll be half paid for...
The only other time was for Legend Of Zelda Ocarina of Time..that was what, 1998?

I've pre-ordered GTA V, because truthfully it is pretty much assures to be epic.
But is it though? If it turns out to be crap will you not be annoyed at wasting your time/money for the sake of waiting a week or two for some feedback to appear? I waited for Feedback on Deus Ex: Human Revolution and a lot of people said it was a good game so I bought it. I never made it past the first boss, I spent hours sneaking around, sedating people, trying not to get spotted and loved it. Then I got to the level boss and you basically have to run and shoot, which was nothing like the rest of the level.
It's been gathering dust since.

No. I kind of know what Genre I am into, GTA Games never disappoint me, I think anyone who says GTA 4 is bad is a lunatic, I think it's ace.
Its certainly not bad. Probably didn't meet the massively high expectations everyone had for it, expect GTA5 to do that though!I pre-order because often it's cheaper when doing so, you frequently get bonuses for pre-ordering, I usually get the game a day or two before release and I avoid having to drive to the shops to pick anything up, I simply return home from work and it's there on the doormat. Most reviews appear before the game ships, so if something should turn out to be unexpectedly bad I'll cancel, but I've usually got a good idea from reading previews months in advance anyway.
You don't pay anything up-front and only pay when the item is shipped.
As someone else has said, if you're a fan of the studio or series then you're pretty much assured that you're safe by buying the next release, you know GTA:V isn't going to be anything short of excellent. I pre-ordered The Last Of Us last week because the studio constantly releases great games and the previews were all glowing, with not a bad thing to say about it. Reviews cropped up a few days beforehand and confirmed that it was excellent, so I can't see a single reason why I wouldn't pre-order.
As for feedback from other people, I'll take the opinion of someone who plays games day-in, day-out, over Joe Bloggs from a forum any day of the week.

I'll also pre-order GTAV (once I remember to do so).
In this case you get a tiny bit of extra stuff and you know you'll get it on release day, it's been years since a game has sold out and been unavailable from day 1, but GTA IV was the last time.
Early reviews are starting now and I very positive, reviews of the finished game will be coming soon, it's fair to say in the highly unlikely event it's a stinker, there will be time to cancel.

I am seriously considering pre-ordering Payday 2 as they give you 2 beta keys when you do. The first game is excellent and the combination of Beta keys and previous track record means I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
On the other hand this can bite you in the arse. I love Borderlands 1 + 2 so Alien: Colonial Marines being released by the same company was a pre-order and what a dog turd that turned out to be.
It has altered my view. As I said I am CONSIDERING pre-ordering Payday 2 but this time last year I would definitely have done so.
So in short yes I pre order for bonuses / discounts but I do so cautiously.

To be fair, if you'd read a few previews of Colonial Marines you'd have noticed it wasn't being looked on very favourably. Payday 2 is also being developed by a different team to the original game, so I'd not take the previous game as a measure of quality. On the other hand this can bite you in the arse. On the last 4 occasions I've used Amazon they have failed to deliver my pre-ordered game on the release date, if I lived in the Shetlands then I could understand but not good enough when in London.
I now just pop down the supermarket where its often cheaper.
That's because you used Amazon, who have a reputation for never getting things out on time.I now just pop down the supermarket where its often cheaper.
