After a couple of events this morning, I thought it would be interesting to get some PHers stories of Karma dealing out some balance - there must be some funny ones?

Anyway, this morning:

Woke up to an email that I'd won on the Euromillions at 5 this morning, I have never woken up that fast in my life. Turns out it was only £11 but this is still money for beers or something tonight. +1 good Karma

I then had to take the OH to the airport for half 5. Almost home, I was flashed by a group of girls. Very surreal, but +1 good Karma?

So, not a bad morning so far, I'm 2 up in Karma points before 7 (does it even work on points?).

Decided to get in and go for a run and came home to what can only be described as the molten iron core of the Earth - girlfriend had put the heating on when getting ready and not turned it off. I go to the bathroom (in desperate need) and pass out, cracking my head on the corner of the bath as I go. Came to slumped against the bath with a massive headache. +2 Bad Karma

Thus, my morning has balanced out nicely and I start afresh.

So, has anyone else any stories to share of Karma* bringing back the balance?

*I don't really believe in Karma

Living in London I was crossing Oxford Circus on the pedestrian crossing when a trainee cabby doing the knowledge on a Honda stepthrough chicken chaser thing jumped the lights and nearly ran me over. I turned and shouted some abuse at him, he turned around to reciprocate, didn't notice traffic had stopped and drove right into the back of a stationary black cab in front, the man mountain driver of which got out looking very very unhappy.

Colleague had a minor car crash, didn't have whiplash but claimed anyway.

Fast forward 6 months and they get scammed by a staged accident with them running into the back of a car which stopped for no reason.

Insurance karma ....

Bloke cut me up on a roundabout once. I sounded my horn to let him know I was there. He started laughing and giving me the Vs through his window as he accelerated away.....into the side of a van coming onto the roundabout.

How did you not then crash from laughing so hard?

Many years ago in Singapore the girl I was seeing at the time and I were due to go on a sunset dinner cruise around the harbour and islands.
Turn up at the boat (nice touristy junk looking thing, all lanterns and dragons and stuff) bang on time, but 45 minutes later it's still firmly tied to the quayside, with just me and girlie on board, and the crew hanging around the galley area looking a bit bored.

Captain comes over....
"Really sorry to keep you both waiting, but the rest of tonight's booking was a coach party, and they've just been involved in a crash......"
(Bit more rolleyes at this point)
........"so if you're happy with it, there'll just be me steering the ship, the crew doing the cooking for you.....leaving you two enjoying the sunset and our hospitality. Is that ok?"

Found an iPhone in a taxi in Boston. Made a lot of effort to ensure the phone was returned to the owner.

Lost iPhone in taxi in Lisbon. Taxi driver tracked me down and returned it

Karma.

Many years ago, waiting to get into a nightclub with the then girlfriend. Looking across the road, I saw a homeless guy in pretty rough order trying not to be noticed by the assorted chavs (this was Newcastle) who were milling around. He was waiting until they walked past, and then coming out of his hiding hole and looking through a bin and opening the discarded wrappers looking for food.

I walked over, had a brief chat. Turns out he was ex army, tours of Bosnia etc. I was in service at the time and could tell by what he was saying, he was for real. Anyways, gave him £20 and told him good luck.

Walked back across to the queue, took my space, and waited. 10 minutes later I was walking into the entrance, and I looked down and saw a folded up £20 note someone had dropped.

Karma indeed. Thought about that guy often over the years. Really hope he sorted himself out and got his life back together.

Ok, so it doesn't involve a courier riding in to the back of a bus having given me the finger........
I thought it was karma, not retribution.

Back in my secondary school in the late 70s there was a skinhead who used to bully and hit anyone he felt like. One day during a lesson the teacher left the room. Looking out the window (we were up on the first floor) we saw him walking towards our block. In our class was a big hard lad called Wayne who as we were about to find out didnt like him. As the skinhead got nearer Wayne shouted at him to stop which he did. He then told the skinhead to tell us all that he was a w****r. Which he did. Then he was told to keep saying it, the look on his face was total humiliation, serves him right he was a nasty piece of work.

One time sitting in a truck cab parked having a break with the rest of the crew on an estate a bloke passed us on a bike. Turned round and gave us the finger and rode into a mini roundabout and went over the handlebarsbiggrin

When I was a kid in London there were some older lads in our street and one in particular who used to pick on us younger ones. They had some bangers which they decided to stick in a pile of dog crap in the middle of the streeteek He lit it and before he got his arm away it went off covering his hand and arm in poo. All us younger one were laughing our heads off swiftly followed by having to run off before we got beat.

Two lanes of traffic merging into one, everyone being very gentlemanly and taking turns. Except when it came to my turn and the prick in the Golf GTI to my left glued himself to the rear of the car in front of him so he gained one place in the single file queue.

He is now so busy gazing in the mirror at me behind him and ranting because of something that he failed to notice the traffic had stopped and gently ran into the back of the car in front.

No damage so they set off again. Chummy still looking in his mirror and somehow blaming me behind for it all when the traffic stopped again and he ran into the bloke in front again.

Karma involves a cause and effect, a divine balancing if you will.

Your story was of something unexpected, but not Karma.

If the bus had splashed you on the way, the crash could have been considered Karmic.

If you had given the Captain a lift there, him having broken down, your enhanced evening could be Karmic.

But, as you tell it, I'm afraid there is no Karma involved.

1996 at my grandfather's funeral, a Royal Mail driver didn't care for the lack of swift progress we were making along a rural B road. Roaring past the entire procession, it was funny to see the arse of his van sticking out of a hedge a mile or so down the road. I like to think it was divine intervention, possibly karma, the reality of it was he was a rude aggressive prick and was the architect of his own fate.

Having worked for a funeral director in the past we were always happy for someone to overtake the entire courtage, we didn't want to inconvenience anyone, what we didn't want is for people to leapfrog inbetween the cars, then jam the brakes on meaning the rest of the courtage has to brake. As such we used to drive much closer together than normal traffic would, to encourage anyone planning an overtake to do it swiftly and cleanly.

I was kinda referring to the fact we were delayed nearly an hour but it worked in our favour in the end.
Never mind. I'll try not clog up your Internet in future.

We weren't hoofing it, but we weren't going unnecessarily slowly. The overtake was needlessly aggressive, the road wasn't really wide enough and the van drove on the right-hand verge to get by. We were turning off that road in a couple of miles anyway, his delay would have been minimal compared to sticking it in the hedge.

I've overtaken funeral cortèges before, I wasn't opposed to the overtake in itself, more the manner in which he made it on a narrow road with blind corners. He took himself off the road, I'd call it bad karma whether it was a funeral or not, I was really just setting the scene.

hehe I had a very similar one in a Tesco carpark one Christmas. Only one exit, controlled by traffic lights, I was trying to pull out of a side road in the carpark onto the main road out. The traffic lights phases weren't in the favour of those looking to leave so it was very slow going. People along the main drag had been letting one car out at each phase and it seemed to work ok, except one chap... there was a decent gap to the car in front of him, the traffic started moving so I pulled out to move into the space. He accelerated hard to prevent me doing this and drove into the car in front. They both stopped, I pulled out around them laughing my ass off as I went.

A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that someone had dropped 20 quid a few minutes after they left a shop. I wanted to go and see if the guy was still around but my mates somehow convinced me to keep it and split it, fiver each. I felt bad so I ripped up the fiver that night, thus trying to void any bad karmings that would come my way.

Anyway, the next day, someone reversed into me. irked

You could always try PM'ing him in future. I'm sure we'd all appreciate that.
