More bad luck for Jedi at Brands

Broken drive shafts at this weekend’s GT races

Team Jedi Racing had more bad luck at Brands Hatch in this weekend’s GT races.

Drivers Rob Horsfield and Frazer Corbyn were both hoping to finish the season on a high following their first points scoring finish at Thruxton. However their run of bad luck continued from the first lap. Gear selection problems made the lap times in free practice uncompetitive. The team managed to overcome these issues and the team qualified in 8th and 7th place in races one and two respectively.
Race one was looking very hopeful after 15 minutes, with Rob Horsfield running well and the team looking at a potential 5th place finish. Unfortunately that is where the weekend and season ended for Team Jedi Racing, a drive shaft snapped leaving Rob stranded on the circuit.

Although the team believed they had repaired the failure  …. the other end of the drive shaft broke as the car was being driven to the grid for the second race. Frazer, Rob and the team retired to the bar to look back on a terrible year during which they have learnt a lot.

Team Jedi finished 5 of the 16 GT races in 2004 and scored just a single point, for eighth place at Thruxton.

Rob Horsfield said, “We found this year a lot harder than we expected. We would love to use what we have learnt in 2004 to come back and do things better in 2005, let's hope we can find a budget!”

Team Jedi has also announced that its Lotus is up for sale to help fund the purchase of a new car for the 2005 British GT Cup Championship.

I think they were using the GKN Lotus motorsport ones (longer and larger!)

Rob more than made up for all this bad luck with an end-of-season blast in the Midengined Sportscar Series at Donington. 24th to 4th place in 6 minutes before the race was red flagged! Pics on the team's site : www.teamjediracing.co.uk
