Has anyone got the Ford part number for an M400 starter motor, I'm assuming all the three litres are the same, but I've been wrong before

Thats what happens when you live in Essex thought you would have come to Snett today for the GT racing was a good show

Ford parts often have all sorts of what appear to be part numbers on them. redface
Try
Ford:- 1151641 or 2S 7T 11000DB.
Bosch:- 0986 021351

If that's the right one, a new (cheapo) can be bought outright for £50 or less. Lucas replacement £70.00 (exchange) Bosch replacement £103.00 (exchange).
Based on the assumption that it is an up to 2005MY ST220 carry over?

It was just a small one man band thing in Doncaster. He did it over night though and came back working and looking like this.




I thought the noble ones had a shorter solenoid to clear the fuel tank than the st220 ones.

Yes - I had a dodgy alternator replaced about 6 years ago, and the 'correct' part no. had a solenoid that was about 10mm longer than the original and ended up being very close to the fuel tank. So much so, that Skip was not happy with it and so glued a neoprene shield to the tank as a stop-gap whilst the original was re-furbed! Unfortunately the correct/incorrect part number was not listed on the bill.

I'm the same, not more than about an 8mm gap to the tank so I used rubber on the tank, the solid engine mounts don't allow much movement though and it's never touched.

The starter motor hadn't actually failed, it was covered in clutch dust, stopping it engage, if it doesn't fly forward the solenoid does not work, I am told this is the most common faliure mode due mainly because of poor design, it's sitting next to a centrifuge. It is fairly rare for the unit to actually break or wear out.

All it needed was stripping and cleaning.
