Hi all,

Wondered if you could help me with something I don't understand!

Broke key casing on Boxster 987 key. Bought a spare key from fleabay. Swapped blade and internals over, central locking works, bonnet boot release, key in ignition, nothing won't start!! New battery still won't start.

Swapped blade and internals into broken old plastic casing, key in ignition, starts!!!!

I have no idea why the old plastic broken case makes the difference, surely the internal chip and blade are what the car recognises. Any advice as I'm well confused!!! I'm sure I've read in the past about people swapping internals and blades over without problems

Is there anything else that I have missed that requires transferring from the old unit to the new unit?

in case anyone else stumbles across this problem, it was the transponder chip that I hadn't swapped. It's required for immobiliser and it's very difficult to swap. Taken me well over an hour but all good now
