Right you lot don't laugh. I've had a glass of wine or three.

How the Bl&&dy **** do you get the standard gear knob off a 350i. I'm looking to add a very minor splash of bling but have been known to be a bit hand fisted when it comes to removing things so I thought it better to ask.

I can't see an an Allen key, it won't unscrew and I am a bit reluctant to pull it.biggrin

And while we are on the subject of very minor bling. Where cam I get a replacement handbrake sleeve? Mine is horrible.

Cheers Karl

It unscrews. You are lucky it's not loose like mine. If you don't want it, sell it at the Fest on the Autojumble.

Cheers Adam

If that is the case I think at some time in the past a previous owner has treated it to a dose of epoxy as it is solid.

It's absolutely mint condition so I am reluctant to get the grips on it so it may have to stay for a while.

Thanks Karl.

Try putting something slightly sticky on it (maybe a sugary drink?) let it dry off a bit then wrap a cloth around it nice and tight, to bulk it out, so you get more torque. I reckon it'll unscrew then.

Marigolds are your friend.

Wrap the glove around the knob, put the ends so that it tightens up and then twist.

A method I've used frequently is to knock said tight thing simultaneously from opposite sides using two similar sized hammers and that always does the trick, to avoid marking the knob you could try hard rubber mallets or get the missus to old two bits of wood either side whilst you swing! Seriously.

Jack the car up..Drop the gearbox out..swap for one that doesnt have a knob on it....eek..Seriously though if you can twist it a tiny bit clockwise to crack any glue and then twist it anti-clockwise..Most have a plastic insert that gets chewed up as its screwed down..It should come off eventually...Ziga
