After putting up with a slowly deflating tyre for a few months I got around to cleaning my car at the weekend - including a nice shine up for the wheels.

After the soapy bit I spotted bubbles around the valve stem and nut that holds it in place. So I held the stem with some pliers and nipped up the nut (9/16" AF) which wasn't loose but not exactly tight either. So - if you are suffering from a slow "puncture" on split rims with metal valves - check yer valve nuts!

Adam. Is it possible you may have had two problems simultaneously? The valve leaking, and a slow puncture. The only way to find out is to dip the whole wheel in a bath of soapy water. Just a thought!

It'll have to wait then as my annual bath was two months ago...

I had this on one of my oz's it turned out to be the base of the valve, I found when I stripped the wheels down for the referb it was the hole in the rim that had corroded and the valve couldn't seal, the solution was I drilled all the valve holes out and fitted the next size up in valves.
Now they are like a frogs bum!

Adam I don't think you are supposed to lick the tyre valves.... ;^)

Anyhoo it seems like my nipping-up did the trick, tyre is staying inflated now. No need for an early bath after all (I was considering using the one at the Chase....)

You'll be surprised how much fun it can be to have a bath with a Wedge tyre. It beats a rubber duck any day. Just make sure you use plenty of bubble bath and no one sees you leaving the bathroom with the tyre or they may not understand you were looking for a leak.
