Even if they are offshore, are thier any apprenticeships or training posts people with non specific degrees can do and get paid 23,000 plus while training. I want a change in career but i have a mortgaged house. I cant afford to pay for a degree nor will i have the time working full time. I can afford to pay a couple of grand to do something but no more.

I dont know much about offshore but was wondering do they do anything like that?

I would be astonished if anybody but Alan sugar pays their apprentices well, especially to the level if 23k.

Apprenticeships and 'well paid' are pretty mutually exclusive; Merchant navy cadets get 5-10k pa while training which takes 3 years(3.5~ if you opt to do the degree thing), and your starting wage will be £18-25k. You could join the forces; trade skills tend to be 2-3 years for the first level and once out of basic training the pay is ~£18k, rising as you become more qualified. The opportunity to do degrees is there, but not until you're a few years in.

Re-reading the OP, I'd add that graduate entry to officer training in the forces is better paid; I think you're on ~20k until you leave Cranwell/Dartmouth/Sandhurst(6 months-ish), when you get subaltern pay which I think is ~24k.

I think apprenticeships are aimed at school leavers. How old are you?

There are plenty of part time courses at colleges or online. Have you an idea of what you would like to do?

The newer type of Apprenticeship schemes aimed as an alternative to university might be an option (I know my employer (a household name IT company) pays at that sort of level).

What is it you are actually trying to achieve and why? Do you want a change of job/role function or a change of industry?

I suspect you've maybe got little in the way of formal qualifications which is why you're looking for a well paid apprenticeship? There aren't any I can think of. I looked into being an air traffic controller years ago but I think with anything like this you're going to have to accept a low wage for at least the initial 12 months most likely 2-3 years though.
