Ok chaps and chapesess.

Looks like I might be in the market for a cerbie. This will be my 5th TVR, so I am not a novice, but I will be where the AJP8 is concerned.

Ive had a chimp, Tuscan Red Rose, Tamora and I have a T350c (03 plate) atthe moment.

I have always like the Cerb, but I just dont get to use the car as I travel allot, and I have a bus plan which will mean I need to free some dispable income on a monthly basis.

With this all in mind I recon to have £20k I can spend and I want a 4.2 or 4.5.

Now, what will I get for the money, and what are to downsides/things to look for on a AJP8 in this price range.

Thanks in advance for any responce

You'll certainly get a 98 4.5 for the money. There was a nice metallic green 0ne for sale in the classifieds.I had a 99 model that was built so well I was very sad to see it go. I replaced it with a RR Tuscan but have since sold that as it was only a step up in the handling depertment and about 5 down in the build quality. Start looking around (usual TVR rules apply) but you know this anyway. Make sure you get one with AC as unlike the Tuscan you really will cook in the summer.

Fred

Please feel free to give Ray a call.

I have lived through each of your changes of TVR with much interest.

Ray will tell it as it is...no holds barred...has bills since we've had the Cerb and by the end of the call you will want one more than ever.

In fact....I could never understand why you didn't go for one 3 cars down the line.....it was always in your destiny mate....

Course.....if you could wait a while and could persuade your other half that yellow is the only colour for a TVR (After all you do have a Midas T350 so you know what attention yellow gets!)....I know of a 4.5 that is an absolute gem.

If you ring us though bear in mind that once he starts talking Cerbera...you could be on the phone all night so could you wait till about 8o/c so that he has his dinner first mate!....

Cheers Pauline... I will drop ray a line this week, have to goto Spain to jump out a plane on Thurs, so will call before them. I think Julie is warming to them after the meet at the weekend. I just have no experiance on the AJP8

20K will get you a very nice car.

Or go for one a bit under with slightly higher mileage (30-50K). Personally I wouldn't be put off by higher mileage as regularly used cars seem to provide fewer headaches, also big bills should generally have been met already.

19K should get you a '98/'99 4.2 with 35-45K on the clock.

What is the general cosensus with regard to the old dealer/private debate when considering a Cerb ?

Luck of the draw. Can recommend Dream Machines where I bought mine from as a dealer.

Drive a fair few, ask lots of questions, research on here.

Good luck

Has anyone got a 'to look for list' for the 4.2/4.5 Cerbie. I have read some posts on here, but it would be good to have a list to help look for

Many thanks

Thanks for the plug!!
The reason its been around a while is the fact its here in guernsey, not that i'm bothered, i'm happy to continue enjoying it, as i know i'm not facing any suprises.
There does seem to be a lot of of cerbs on the market at the moment, and a good few around the mid teens.
So much choice! & some cracking cars out there, just be careful, mileage is not an issue as long as the car has had money spent as & when required.
Buy on condition & from an owner/dealer who knows what they're talking about.

Happy hunting.

Joospeed is the Cerbera specialist. Give him a call for advice; if you can, get him to do the inspection.

TOTAL HIJACK
She really is nice Darren, shame I am not in the market at the moment, have had my eye on her for a while. If I fly over to Guernsey I may see it around!

Thinking of impressing the new Girlie and proving my flying skills by having a 'Romantic' weekend away do you recomend the island?

There will be a lot more for sale soon...!
They're quickly becoming another TVR classic....
I reckon, give it till around April next year, and some of the die-hards will have their fully sorted beasts for sale....
and contrary to peoples thoughts, the price gap between age and mileage will get closer and closer... and the bottom line price for 4.5s will get lower...
sad... but true for a what I've heard a few so called motoring enthusiasts call "a glorified kit car"....
