vixen interior
Discussion
I'm starting to trim out the interior and I wanted a bit of advice on how to tackle the windscreen pillars. This part of the molding has quite a deep recess and I wondered if this was just foam filled with vinyl stretched between the windscreen seal and the door seal, or if it should have a hardboard backing and shaped to bridge the gap in the fibreglass? Any thoughts or advice appreciated other than taking it to a professional to do it properly!
Are you taking the headlining material down to the dash or stopping it at the top of the screen? If you put foam in to pad it out you may have difficulty in either getting the 'screen rubbers and door seals on (depending on weight of the foam) or getting it "just right" to get the foam to stop where the seals start.
I used black vinyl up the pillars without foam behind (from memory) and it looks OK to me (but I'm in no way a perfectionist!!)

From memory, the original trim was just a piece of black leathercloth, with a bit of foam glued in behind it. (Vixen S3)
Alternate idea - I have new headlining in mine, and I extended the headlining around and down the windscreen sides with a couple of matching strips from 'spare' cloth taken off above the door sides. Just enough to fit, and looks neat to me.
