Front end re-spray....?
Discussion
1) Re-spray:
Hi guys, my 500 Chimaera is in good condition: 31,000 miles, pushes out 250 + bph at the rear wheels (dynoed in February), the chassis is good, I have full leather interior (in good condition) and full service history and is a “keeper”.
The only issues I have are: lots of stone chips on the nose and some scratches and grazings in the front wings both side have picked up damages while I was parked (passenger side: a car must have backed into my car as I was parked as there is a “webbing” the size of my hand on the front wing. The driver side has been done by a 4 x 4 (I think) that tried to park next to me while on a petrol station car park but actually touched the car and left without leaving his details… (I am saying it must be a 4 x 4 as there are little marks above the wheel arch)…. And d I have a couple of stone chips in one of the mirrors…
I am thinking at some point to have a front end re-spray (from the front of the car to the mirrors, including the bonnet and both wings). On the passenger side, the “webbing” is the size of my hand and might need to be taken back to the gel coat, on all the rest, it’s just a simple paint job (3/4 of it would actually clean up nicely with a good polish and some hard work…).
The colour of my car is “chianti STARMIST red” (not sure if painting “starmist” is more expensive than a “normal colour”).
Questions:
Have you had a front end re-spray and if so, how much did you pay, where did you get the job done and are you happy about the result?
2) “Insurance claim”:
I am insured on a classic policy, fully comprehensive, with a £250 excess…
I guess I could make an insurance claim from the damages done by the 4 x 4, but I guess I would pay the £250 excess, but what else would happen…?
I guess the premium would go up for the following year / years…? Is there any way to work out by how much on average my premium would go up?
Any input would be welcome…
Thanks in advance, Frenchie

I was at Central TVR yesterday speaking to Adrian about the work he is about to do on my Chimaera. It was well worth the drive up from deepest Essex to see the facilities and "work in progress" on other TVR's as a guide to what to expect. I now know my car will come back perfect as the standard of the work I could see on the cars in progress was excellent.
It might be worth your while giving him a call and seeing what he suggests. I think a front end spray on the Chimaera is c£800 plus the VAT but might be more depending on paint costs. Adrian is very approachable and I felt totally at ease talking to him about my car and what he was going to do to it for me

I had a local company do my Z4 and my brother's VX220 front ends. Whole front end.
My brother's was a new clam, paint inside and out, blend into doors, paint mirrors, fit clam and align, think it was about £500. He did a very good job, no niggles with it at all.
Think my Z4 front end paint was about £400.

Had a front end respray earlier this year by Sportmotive. Can highly reccomend them... prices on their website...

Mine was in at Bespoke recently and when I mentioned front end respray I was told that my rosso pearl would be nigh on impossible to colour match. It is amazing how many stone chips you can pick up, no matter how careful (bar not using it). I'm hoping the few spray wizards out there can do it.
I was quoted £800 at the weekend for a full front end and mirrors - I have several hundred stone chips. Plus £200 to machine polish the rest of the car. (The orignal typo "aching", thanks ipad, is what happens when I polish it)
Similar quote in April from a bodyshop I know. He went as far as £1400 for a full respray, IIRC (I was at a track day at the time and the geezer was speaking very quietly)

Macca,
You do not need to be corrected.
Rosso Pearl was/is prone to fading. That said, when I had a rear-ender in about 2003, Christopher Neil resprayed the whole car a 'new' Rosso pearl that apparently does not fade the same way. The change in colour at the time back to new was noticeable. I am sure it must be fading, as all colours do, but of course I can't see it.
So Rosso Pearl is indeed a pain, but if you have had a respray at some stage it is likely that it will be more stable.

If you're in South London area, BeeGee coach craft did a good job on a rear respray for me.
