Hi Everyone,

I’m sure this question has been asked before and I’m sure I won’t be the last to ask it again!

Is the Mercedes performance package (PP) worth getting?

I’ve had two C63AMG’s now, the first without the PP and the second with. I’m handing back my C63AMG in September and have to wait till November for my ML63AMG to arrive; I need more room, a car that can sort of go across a field if needed but would still have the fun aspect of lightning acceleration (this one is more of a want)!

So they are about to start building the car but I still have 10 days left to add on any additional options, so do I get the PP upgrade? Apparently it gives the ML the ultimate status of being the gutsiest SUV on the road, is that true and has anyone experienced the new model ML with and without it to see if you can feel a noticeable difference – or is it more of an ego enhancer? Personally in my C63AMG I could not notice the difference and did actually find the AMG without the PP upgrade moved through the gears more smoothly in towns.

It’s obviously not cheap but that aside is it worth it – given I’ve made the plunge before I’m still in two minds on whether I make the plunge a second time!

Interested in hearing people’s opinions.

Thanks.

Depends on what the PP gives you.
If it is just a power upgrade then I would skip it and go and see Kleemann as they will be a lot more power probably for less money.
Fairly sure their OK for Merc warrant to.

Did you have the Performance Pack, or Performance Pack Plus?

The Plus is worth the outlay in my opinion. There are far fewer on the system and when the poverty spec lease cars get handed back in their thousands next year and the year after...... the market will be flooded at the lower end and residuals will be poor with the huge choice available. At least with the PP+ you'll have more of a tool to try and sell when it comes to moving on time.

Eddie

Sorry, just realised youre asking about the ML63 with PP. lol

I have a '09 W164 ML63 with Performance Pack and I believe that all it does is derestrict the top speed.

On the new models I believe that it gives additional horsepower as well as extra top speed.

Although the extra power probably doesn't make any real difference to performance, I wouldn't hesitate in specifying the performance pack for any number of reasons but principally to ensure I didn't feel inferior when a ML63 with performance pack pulled up next to me!

(...at least I'm honest!)

I think with the pppack on the ml63 you get a ecu power upgrade of 32bhp,carbon engine cover, red calipers, amg suede steering wheel. It's quite a expensive extra but if you add those few extras up say £1000+for the ecu upgrade,£1000+ for the engine cover,£500+ for the calipers and £420 for the suede wheel it comes to nearly £3000, I think the pppack is £6165 on the ml but at least it's done at the factory and its warranty won't be effected. I would have it done & I would also ask the supplying dealer if they can ask the factory to see if they can get the bhp up to 585bhp of the s model that they are doing in the e63 amg, a ml63 with nearly 600bhpcloud9
What spec are you going for? Pan roof is a must I think as is keyless go,21"wheels,side steps.
The ml63 is amazing car I don't think you will be disappointed with it.
If my numbers came up on the euro millions I would ask the factory for a special order ml73 amg.

On the w164 it was called a drivers pack that derestricted it to 174mph & a amg drivers event.
I think the w164 looks better than the new 1. I keep trying to convince myself to like it as much as the old ml63 amg.

I'm currently driving a CLS 63 with the PP and as much as the additional power is nice, in a car with over 500bhp I would have said most people would struggle to notice it, and if it were my money I'd struggle to justify an additional £6k for it!

I would suggest going for the 360 reversing camera, our ML 63 has got it on and it's amazing!

Thanks for all your tips and advice. I have the reversing camera as an option but not the 360 camera, anyone have a video link of it in action?

The ML 63AMG spec I have gone for are:
Osbain black
Leather Black + Interior roof in black
Reversing Cam
Aluminium running boards
21" AMG wheels
Harman Kardon

blk wood interior is also a nice option for the money £380 , the aluminium does'nt look as good. And the panroof is a good option for £650 . If you get chance you should try sitting in a ml with panroof & 1 with just the sunroof.
