Hi Guy's.. for ages I've used Fram PH5443 (ERR 3340 as Land Rover call it) but i'm finding it hard to track down a Fram unit... also Fram get a thumbs down on a few forums I've just been reading so what are we fitting these days?....
Wix comes up a few times as being okay... but then I'm told they come from the same Fram factory in Poland that has no quality control etc
Not sure if it has a bypass in the Fram.. or if we do / don't need one??.. Any thoughts (search down as usual).. Cheers

Anyone tried a K&N filter. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PS-2004-K-N-PRO-OIL-FILT...
They make decent air filters so presume would make a decent oil filter.

thanks Guy's.. the Landy place had Mahle OC261 listed and stocked.. not sure how good they are... but do some have the bypass valves and some not?
I only ask as I'm seeing 60 plus PSI at cold start and I think the valves are set to 65?.. so you don't want the oil being forced around the filter when cold??
I asked them and they said they had never had a problem.. but how would you know?..
I did fit UFI before but for some reason changed to Fram?...

Not sure why you would struggle to get a Fram filter... I use them on racer and can get them no problem (though I am in the motor trade!). I can also get wix, ufi and other makes if you want a price let mw know. Ta. Dave.
Dave.. any idea which is best?.. have you tried to get a Fram recently?.. I've never had problems before but I called a few places today and no-one could get them??... mind you, having read what some are noe saying about Fram... I'm not sure I want one
it was on the Cobra forum, which in turn was quoting an American forum.. but they were saying the pleats were too tight, the filter material was variable and there was leak-around paths in some tested... the guy saying this was a Fram employee but maybe he had some axe to grind?... but the forums did appear to be going along with the downturn in quality?..
Got to say, I've used them for years with little issue as far as I know

Hi. Yeah i have just bought 2 for the racer!! My supplier had them on the shelf... Thats not a bad price for a mahle filter mind, though have no personal experiwnce for quality... we have always used fram on yhe racer (at nay on 400bhp) without any problem thiugh it is changed every 3 meetings lol.

Thats what I use. It's a huge filter (very long), so at first it seems like it wont fit.
But it does, just!
I believe the filter is made by Cummins and is from their Fleetguard range.
These fibreglass media filters were developed for long service commercial vehicles and are a big step forward in filtration technology.
It is indeed the very best filter you can put on your TVR, I use it with the excellent Penrite HPR15 15w60 fully synth.
No matter how good the oil & filtration are, there's still no substitute for regular oil changes.
But that filter is so good at what it does you could easily change it every second oil change.

yes.. have seen then before.. they do read good on the add (but there again it would!).. but not seen a huge uptake with the units?.. Is there a down side?..
Yes:
1) Difficult to fit
2) Expensive
3) Mail order only - can take a week to be delivered
4) Impossible to tell if it's really offering better filtration without sending a sample of your oil off to a lab
None of the above puts me off it.
The size of the filter alone offers a number of advantages , & the independent evidence of how effective fibreglass media filters are is out there in the public domain.
Developed for long service interval Kenwood trucks in the States that only get oil changes every 20,000 miles because any down time is lost money.
That's very punishing treatment on both the oil & the filtration, the truth is this filter is probably massive overkill for our cars.
Talking of overkill, mine has a FilterMag clinging to it too

So the £15 isn't the full jobie?..
I'm guessing its just the replacement filter then?... Go on.. how much are they
The filter is £17.50 including carriage, which is ridiculously expensive for a Rover V8 oil filter.
I'm guessing its just the replacement filter then?... Go on.. how much are they

But if you change it every second oil change it's not much more than a standard filter.
I must admit I replace mine every change, you pays your money ect ect....

so you don't just buy a new internal filter each time?.. you buy the lot?... I was thinking the idea was to have a re-usable cover and you just replaced the inside bit
It seems you're over thinking it.
The website just shows the filter pulled apart so you can see what's inside.
It's a disposable filter, in that respect it's like any other.

Am running an oil cooler that adds approx 10mm for the adapter plate, so that's going to be 10mm too much to get this to fit, yes?Gassing Station | Chimaera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
