Good evening LR owners

So today I decide it's time to clean up and treat the chassis on my Defender before the winter, so stop by the jet wash to start the process. Once the chassis is cleaned I start poking around with a screwdriver and manage to push a small hole at the low point of the chassis about a foot forward of the rear cross member. I was expecting this to be honest.

Can anyone please recommend someone in the South Gloucestershire area to supply and fit a new cross member with extensions.

Thanks

Kevin

Does it really need a new rear cross member. If it's only a tiny hole and solid then it's likely fine. Just clean it up and treat (WaxOyl - pm me if you want). Or see if it can be plated.

Thanks for the replies. As it happens I was googling around last night and read about Pressbrake. That looks a lovely piece of kit, and it's while since I've been to Essex smile

I'll perhaps get an opinion from the garage who do my MOTs. At present it's only one small hole about 2 square cm in area. The vehicle is 17 years old and the rear cross member has had a plate welded at a previous MOT where the tow hitch mount (the right term??) bolts up from underneath, and it's looking like it's about to break through in a few places before too long, hence my thought to do the replacement.

Really appreciate the replies though. Thanks.

Completed this very job myself just recently on my 300tdi.

Bought a new crossmember with extensions online and had it fitted by a local mechanic/welder.

Important thing to note: wiring loom runs inside drivers side of chassis!

Really happy with the result. Have since cleaned chassis inside and out and treated.

Am in Gloucestershire also but my mechanic did not enjoy the job.

New Dixon Bate towbar, step and mudflaps to finish it off.............

Original paint also and only 70k, I love it.....

Its not a hard job if you are brave

astro, that's a nice looking truck. Mine needs some serious effort on the bodywork to look that good again.

Thanks for the tip re BritPart. I'm just learning to MIG weld so I think I'll be paying someone else to fit it.
