How do you change the water temp sensor on a 2008 911 Turbo
Discussion
Hi folks, I am trying to change the water temp sensor on my 08 911TT (997). Does anyone have any advice on what tool is needed?
It is a 22mm nut on the sensor, with the electrical connector on the end. It seems I need a "bendy" spark plug type socket to fit in the very narrow gap.
Has anyone done this?
Do I need to remove other bits? The inlet plenum to the heads is directly above, and to remove this looks to be an engine drop/out exercise. The alternator is in front, not sure removing this would help but probably.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
cheers

Ok, I would recommend using the correct claw foot spanner to remove the temp sensor.
However, if you can't get hold of one, you can make something that will work. You will need:: a long 22mm socket, end of a matching socket (I happened to have one laying around), bolt with head size to suite a ratchet ring spanner of convenient length to fit in the work space, grinder and welder, Hopefully the photos load ok..

You may be able to get by without removing the alternator but it does give you better visibility when removed.
