Trackday Bodyroll... What are my options?
Discussion
Hello all,
I recently took my car to a trackday at Snetterton, and whilst it was a fun experience it highlighted a few issues. Luckily this time I didn't kill it, but there are definitely a few flaws with the original M12 design.
Heat management is the first, I think I know how to fix that - Pro Alloy intercooler - the car felt quick for the first half of the first lap and then performance just slowly dropped off.
Gearchanges - going to go for the Jetstream linkage kit to try to make the whole thing a bit more precise.
Now, the thread subject matter is actually something I noticed later from pictures of the car. It has horrendous bodyroll. This is most likely what makes it such an awesome road car, being so compliant when given unpredictable roads to play with, but on track it rolls so much I think it's starting to lift a rear wheel! When really on it, it seemed to light up the rear tyres on the exit of most corners, pointing to a roll-oversteer situation. Next stop is Nurburgring later this year, where a road bias should help I guess.
So my question would be, what are the options and do they all ruin the road (I.e. where it spends 99% of its time) manors?

Bodyroll and Noble are not usually seen in the same sentence ( and "horrendous" - this is a first for me!). I suspect something is awry with your suspension or tyres. I see. Well in the interests of science, here's the photo. I realise I didn't buy it so probably don't have the rights to it etc. but to me, it looks like a bloody Range Rover. Something broken you say?

Just uploaded the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gF_iB35Oszw you can see a bit of roll but if something bad was broken, surely the car wouldn't be stable?

To be honest looks ok to me. In my 3R if the surface was grippy I could run the standard splitter along the ground under heavy braking from high speed.
Roll might not feal great but it doesn't mean it's a problem.
At this point we'll start with the road V race car stuff.... ZZzzzz
Well this is the thing, it does feel good on the road, really good, and that's where it spends all its time. It's really just been brought on by crazy-looking photos.Roll might not feal great but it doesn't mean it's a problem.

Look, you are giving it some round Agastini,a hair pin, everything else was leaning as much as that.
What you are feeling is the front end grip of the Noble set up.If you had an antiroll bar the car would stay more upright but would understeer more so you wouldn't go round the corner any faster.Stiffer springs
may help but would mess up your road manners.

... not an easy call, might just be cornering speed although I've got a fair bit of slip angle so it can't have been too sedate.
i have the m400 suspension fitted to mine
it is a bit stiffer - but i like it
i find a standard noble a bit wallowy for my taste
i suggest you fit stronger springs first, easy to do with the coil overs
perhaps an ARB is what you need
(FYI Modern landrovers have special air suspension that means they corner level and don't roll at all. even when you park on a hill they remain level !)
